Girls Basketball Sweeps The Week

. The Skyline Hawks girls basketball team swept its opponents last week, winning games on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Hawks started out the week with a 63-31 victory over Manassas Park. There was very balanced scoring in that victory as 11 of the 13 girls on the roster got into the scoring column. Nikea Whitmore was top scorer for the Hawks, with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Rachel Sirbaugh had 7 points and 8 rebounds, in addition to strong defensive play. The Hawks went from that high scoring contest to a low scoring one, as they defeated the Riverside Rams by a final score of 27-23 on Wednesday night. This victory was impressive because Riverside had held Manassas Park to only 11 points when they played, and had also notched a victory over a tough Clarke County team. Clarke was also the final opponent in the busy week for the Hawks, as Skyline battled back to win 34-32, despite trailing at the end of each of the first three quarters.

Nikea Whitmore again had a strong night, with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Whitmore made a free throw with 3.7 seconds left to help seal the victory.

The Hawks did not play a perfect game, but one of the keys to victory was a huge rebounding advantage as Skyline outrebounded Clarke 4319.
