The cyclonic storm MAHASEN over west central Bay of Bengal has moved northwards during past 6 hrs at a speed of about 10 kmph and lay centered at 1130 hrs IST of 14th May 2013 near latitude 14.00 N and longitude 85.50 E, about 350 km northwest of Portblair, 480 km southeast of Vishakhapatnam, 700 km southsouthwest of Paradip, and 1140 km southwest of Chittagong. It would move northeastwards and cross Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Teknaff, close to Chittagong during evening/night of 16th May 2013. DW (Distant Warning) - II at Visakhapatnam, Machilipatnam, Krishnapatnam and Nizampatnam ports. Replace DW-II with section signal V with DW-II with section signal II at Kakinada and Gangavaram ports.

Fishermen of Andaman & Nicobar Islands are advised not to venture in to the sea during next 48 hours. Fishermen of North Coastal Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh are to be careful while venturing into the sea along and off these coasts during next 24 hours.
High Wind Wave Alert for Nicobar, Andaman, Tamil Nadu, Orissa and Kerala • • •
High wind waves in the range of 2.5- 5.7 meters are forecasted during 02:30 hrs on 14-05-2013 to 23:30 hrs on 15-05-2013 along the west and east coast of Nicobar Islands between ten degree channel to great channel. Under the influence of Cyclonic Storm ‘MAHASEN’, strong winds from Northwesterly to Westerly direction speed occasionally reaching 45-55 Kmph likely along off Tamil Nadu, Kerela, Lakshadweep and Punducherry Coast. Strong winds from Southwesterly direction speed occasionally reaching 45-55 kmph likely along off South Tamil Nadu coast,
Thunderstorm/Squalls: •
Thunderstorm/squall would occur at one or two places over Odisha, West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during next 48 hours and over Rayalaseema & Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu during next 24 hours.

Squally winds speed reaching 40-45 kmph gusting to 60 kmph would prevail along Andaman and Nicobar Islands during next 24 hours. Sea condition will be rough to very rough along and off Andaman and Nicobar Islands during this period.
Action taken in view of emergency situation: • •
Most of the schools in Mizoram state are closed till Sunday (19th of May). IAG Odisha had its 3rd meeting on 12th May to take a stock of preparedness in view of the Cyclone MAHASEN, the likely impact is minimal as the Cyclone would move towards Bangladesh-Mayamar Coasts.
