Proper commissioning of a PA System/Intercom is based on its features and functionality and varies from system to system. Commissioning should take place after all system programming has been completed as programming will affect system operation. The integrator and all responsible parties should have requested a list of network requirements and any other information required before site work commences. Refer to any documentation provided by Valcom including our Network Requirements and Best Practices documents. If you have arranged Valcom’s assistance with site commissioning, then full commissioning will not be possible until the site visit. Verify that all equipment is installed, labelled and connected prior to the arrival of the factory representative. Verify that all UPS battery backups are fully charged. Make certain that all equipment and connections are fully accessible. Prepare for the site commissioning by completing our IP6000 Pre Commissioning Questionnaire. Self-Amplified speakers and amplifiers may be pretested with a tone generator or other low-level audio source. In order to facilitate commissioning, the following will be required: 1) The dedicated attention of at least one qualified technician that: a. Can perform required tests b. Knows the location of all equipment c. Knows the routing of all infrastructure d. Knows the terminations of all infrastructure e. Knows all equipment passwords and log in credentials f. Has all required tools, ladders and lifts required to make any necessary adjustments or perform any necessary tests. 2) Full unrestricted access to all areas involved. 3) Full unrestricted access to all relevant equipment. 4) Cell phone service or access to a telephone with long distance service at all equipment locations. © 2015 – 2017 Valcom, Inc. 5) Wi-Fi and/or wired Internet access with a guest password. It may be necessary to connect to the network serving the Valcom equipment and to the Internet simultaneously. 6) Permission: a. To take digital pictures and video b. To connect an unrestricted laptop, or other unrestricted PC, to the network serving the Valcom equipment If the Valcom equipment interfaces to any other systems, then reserved access to whoever manages or administers those systems must be available. These include, but are not limited to: 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7)

Data Networks Telephone Systems Radio Systems Social Media Accounts Websites Fire Alarm Systems Door Access Control Systems

Contract documents may require complete or sample testing. Record testing results on a per area basis as necessary. In any case, keep good records of commissioning test results. Commissioning tests to perform include: All Systems Verify component placement against design drawings to confirm correct placement and model numbers. This verifies Bill of Materials and Placement and Design. Distribute low level white noise to each zone independently and verify audio and appropriate level from each speaker. This verifies all speakers are working at acceptable volume levels - adjust levels as needed. Verify that there is no undesired audio (noise or crosstalk). PA/Intercoms Accessed By Telephone Systems Verify access of system via SIP and/or by the correct trunk or station dial code access from the telephone system. Verify the correct operation of all telephone speed dial buttons designed to access/invoke system functions/features.

If the system can be accessed from multiple telephones, microphones, etc., verify the operation of each. Verify hunt group access of system, class of service, restrictions, PIN codes, Max paging time length, etc. as applicable Systems with Speakers and Horns At each speaker zone location, verify correct zone dial code, inclusion in appropriate group(s), and inclusion in all call. Verify audio quality of talkback paging in talkback zones and one way paging during zoning, group and all call test. Verify applicable pre-announce tone (all speakers) and repeated alert/call button press confirmation/ring back tones (at talkback speakers). Record the average page level (dBspl) for each area. Use a consistent audio source for all dBspl tests. Verify call button operation (if used) - that correct location is called and that rollover to all secondary (or more) answering points are correct. Check each call button for proper operation on multiple call button units. Verify correct operation of LEDs or strobes/flashers on speakers as applicable. Verify tones (if used) are the correct tone and broadcast in the correct zones or group of zones (including time clock tone, night/loud ring, emergency, etc.). Verify tone schedules (if used). Verify automated messages (if used) are sent to the correct zones or groups. Verify automated message schedules (if used). If store and forward is used, verify correct operation (stacking and/or feedback elimination). If automatic volume controls are used verify correct operation by tapping on the mic while an announcement is being initiated and verifying an increase in page volume. Automatic adjustments are not made while audio is actively being broadcast. If local wall mount volume controls are used verify they are controlling the correct speakers. If an override microphone is used verify correct volume and override of zones.

Systems Using Background Music Verify BGM music distribution for all channels broadcasts to the correct group(s) (if used). If BGM is not used, program sample groups to auxiliary inputs and verify operation for future additions. Systems with PC Access Verify network connectivity using the browser interface, PC programming tool, Administration Tool or VIP-102B Tool where appropriate. Where applicable verify data is properly logged to syslog. Systems with Secondary Alerting Verify that secondary alerting systems and devices properly respond to the primary system’s invocation. For example, are emails delivered, SMS messages received, phone apps alerted, telephone speakers called, etc. Other Verify system priorities. Does higher level priority audio override lower priority audio? Verify clock correction by verifying all clocks show the same time and match the system time. Verify proper operation of auxiliary inputs and outputs such as contact closure inputs and outputs (switch inputs, relays, etc.). Verify proper operation of auxiliary systems and controls as applicable (Strobes, door locks, etc.). If supervision is used, create a fault and verify fault reporting within applicable time period and that fault indication is correct for test. Test all fault types per zone/system as required. Test battery backup operation where applicable. Verify user access levels to system programming. Test high availability of servers where applicable. If audio source redundancy is in use, then test auto device failover. Verify all other site specific functions used not listed above.
