Before You Start you need to be prepared for four (4) questions: i. What is the USER name of the Sending Gmail Account ii. What is the PASSWORD of the sending Gmail Account iii. What is the Email ADDRESS to send the alerts to iv. The RECIPIENT name (or salutation) for iii, above
Super Fast 4 Step Quick Start (only for those who are very good at reading popup instructions and following them) Step 1 – Download the Zip File From http://squaksprings.homeserver.com/rainier/siafit/win7siafit.zip Step 2 – Unzip the exe and move it to your WHS Desktop Step 3 – Double-click on the exe and follow the instructions Step 4 – Run the SelfTestScheduler.exe from All Prograns HDGuardian Win7Self-TestScheduler
More Detailed Quick Start 1) Download the Software Package from http://squaksprings.homeserver.com/rainier/siafit/win7siafit.zip 2) Unpack (unzip) the Win7SIAFIT.zip 3) Right-click Win7SAIFIT.exe and unblock the file
4) Turn OFF any AntiVirus and Firewall software 5) Run (double-click) Win7SAIFIT.exe to start the installation 6) Read and Agree to the three Software License Agreements (all in one window)
7) Click on Install – Do Not Change the Destination folder; the software installs in the root C:\DiskTesting

[email protected]). These will work fine or you can create new ones1. Note: the sending and receiving email addresses cannot be the same. (Rick the
[email protected] password is the same as the your WHS password)
8) Input the Gmail Account USER name (example: rnew92600 )

10)What Email ADDRESS do you want alerts sent to. This should be an address you use regularly check all the time. You don’t want one of these errors, if any, going unnoticed.
11)Input the RECIPIENT name. This can be just your first name.
12)Next you will get confirmation that the program received your four inputs. Notice that it says you’ll need to input the password again (see step 16) NOTE: After you click OK, the WHS will restart. So if you have anything to save or close, do it now.
13)Warning of the restart. Whether or not you click Close, the system will restart in 30 seconds
14)Wait for the Windows 7 to restart 15)After Windows 7 reboots you may see a number of warnings (as you would with any newly installed program that was not already recognized by the software.) This will depend upon what Virus protection and/or Firewall software you have that restarts with the reboot.
You may even get a heuristic virus alert when you test the email. This has not really found a virus signature. Instead what it is saying is, “This program that is new to me is doing some stuff like a virus would do” namely accessing the internet and sending stuff 16)Ultimately after you get through all the warnings, if any, you will see this:
Before you go onto step 17, take a quick gander at the Health percentage of each of your hard drives. If all are at 100%, GOT TO STEP 16. The issue here is that any hard drive with a Health Calculation of less than 100% is going to cause email alerts. So unless you want a bunch of email alerts bombarding you, we need to do something before we re-input the email PASSWORD in Step 16. For any Health Calculation of 99% or less. i. Open the S.M.A.R.T. tab ii. Look for the iii. Change the offset until the goes away
17)Go to ConfigurationE-mail Configurations and input your PASSWORD again
18)Test your email settings (see button in the screenshot above) 19)If all goes well you’ll see this and get an email
20)If you get an error you can rerun the part of setup for your EmailInputs only by using WarningsEmailSetupInfo.exe You will need to restart HDSentinel for the changes to take affect and re-input your PASSWORD there again – Step 15

21)Run Win7Self-TestScheduler Note that SelfTestScheduler will only work for hard drives directly connected to the Motherboard in this Windows 7 version of SIAFIT.

1) HDSentinel – the program that greeted you after the restart 2) gsmartcontrol – Graphical User Interface to SMART Tools that SIAFIT uses to surface scan Motherboard connected hard drives. Can be used by you manually 3) WinDlg – Western Digital Diagnostic Tool. Can be used on any brand hard drive. SIAFIT uses this tool to surface scan PCI Controller connected hard drives. Can be used by you to manually run tests. If a fix/repair is offered – DO NOT USE IT ON OTHER BRAND HARD DRIVES 4) Win7Self-TestScheduler – See Step 20 above 5) ChangeUnattendedUserPassword – SIAFIT creates a Unattended User. The password is a automatically and randomly created within the WHS OS. Should you wish to change this password, use ChangeUnattendedUserPassword 6) MoBoCtlrTestResults – shortcut to the folder that holds the periodic test results for Motherboard connected hard drives 7) uninstall – Use this batch program to completely uninstall the SIAFIT 8) WarningsEmailSetupInfo – see Step 19 above HDGuardian, the main Start Menu listing, is the name of the LLC that owns and licenses SIAFIT (I am sure you remember reading that in the license you clicked “Accept” on way back on Step 6)
