Circle Time Preparation 1) “The Wheels on the Bus”: Gather song materials and practice with Corps members. Verse 1: The wheels on the bus go ‘round and ‘round ‘Round and ‘round, ‘round and ‘round. The wheels on the bus go ‘round and ‘round, All through the town. Verse 2: The people on the bus go up and down… Verse 3: The horn on the bus goes toot, toot, toot… Verse 4: The money in the bus goes ching, ching, ching… Verse 5: The wiper on the glass goes swish, swish, swish… Verse 6: The driver on the bus says, “Move on back…” 2) “Down by the Bay”: Gather song materials and practice with Corps members. Verse 1: Down by the bay, where the watermelons grow. Back to my home, I dare not go. For if I do, my mother will say, “Did you ever see a snake baking a cake?” Down by the bay. For Introduction Of Center Time Activities Gather objects to use when introducing available Center Time activities in trays or shoe boxes. Prepare and practice introducing all activities, and demonstrating 1-2 activities. Create a chart displaying the names of the designated small groups of children. These small groups will meet together for Let’s Find Out About It.
Center Time Preparation Let’s Find Out About It: Birth Announcements Gather materials. Bookmark a page in Peter’s Chair with Peter’s sister Susie. Bookmark a page in Noisy Nora with Nora’s brother Jack. Use instructions below to make a chart sized birth announcement. Include name, place of birth, date and time of birth and blank spaces for length, and weight. Use instructions below to create the box lid scale. Measure and cut a piece of yarn or string to the length of a baby doll (one for each Corps member and the team leader) Sites with pre-cut yarn laces should have two pieces available to tie together per child for measuring their height. Print sample birth announcements (provided below). Print pictures of a baby being weighed, a child being weighed and an adult on a scale (provided below). Session Plan 3 Birth Announcement, Box Lid Scale, Alphabet Bingo, and Alphabet Chart Preparation Birth Announcement Chart Materials • 1 piece of flip chart paper or poster board per Let’s Find Out About It group • Markers
Directions 1) Utilize the example below to write-in the elements of the birth announcement chart in Abc Print font. 2) The name, date of birth and place of birth can the name of the team leader, Corps member or made up. The length and weight sections should be left blank until the activity. 3) Repeat above steps to make charts for each LFOAI group.

Box Lid Scale Materials • Box lid large enough to hold baby doll • Construction or copy paper • Scissors • Glue tubes or tape

Directions 4) Print the attached screen template. 5) Glue or tape the top half to the box lid. 6) Fold along the dotted line of the template. 7) There will be enough overlap to fold a flap to keep the paper securely shut or tape it shut (optional). 8) The activity should start with the paper folded shut then progress to folding it down (see below)
Alphabet Bingo Boards Materials • Tagboard • Attached templates • Scissors • Glue tubes • Small objects to use as chips: (buttons, pennies, cut up tagboard) • Uppercase alphabet cards • Laminating machine or clear adhesive (optional) *Note: Laminating the bingo boards will make them more durable and able to withstand more handling by the children for longer, as this material will be used again during later sessions.
Directions 1) Print the bingo board templates on the following pages. 2) Use scissors to cut out around the outline of the rectangular bingo boards. 3) Cut tagboard into 10 rectangular boards the same size as the bingo board templates. 4) Take one individually cut out bingo board template and glue the template on to one of the cut out rectangles of tagboard. Do this for each of the remaining templates. 5) Laminate the cards when dry, if possible. 6) Gather small objects to use as chips, such as buttons or pennies. You can also cut up tagboard into pieces big enough to cover the letters on the bingo boards to use as chips. 7) Use the uppercase letter cards to play bingo. Hold up the cards with the letters you call out so children can look for matches on their boards!
