SENIOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPER (BACK-END)  Start Date: Immediate  Location: Center for Social Innovation (Chelsea, New York City)    ABOUT SELECTED  Selected helps teachers get jobs at schools they love. We offer a matching platform that connects teachers  with 500+ schools in metro areas throughout the Northeast, including NYC, Newark, Philly, and DC. Selected is  100% free for teachers and helps them finish a job search in weeks, not months.    Our mission is to help teachers and schools make higher quality matches with ease. A better fit and efficient  discovery process means improved teacher retention and school performance.    WHY JOIN US?  Be our second engineer. We’re a funded, early­stage edTech startup combining matching algorithms from the  dating world, a modern UX, and a new, streamlined approach to scalable teacher recruitment. Work closely  with the founding team, have direct product input and impact, and take an active role in scaling our technology.  We believe the best products make technology accessible and hide the complexity.    WHAT YOU’LL BE WORKING ON  ● Matching algorithm: the core experience for teacher and schools that helps them discover matches on a  multitude of attributes.  ● System architecture: for example, creating a modular “ Universal Javascript ” library for both server and  client to use interchangeably.  ● Enterprise­level monitoring systems that will help us reliably scale to more schools and larger school  districts.  ● Technical leadership: developing the Selected platform to be a leader in the areas of “ Progressive Web  Applications ,” for example, and sharing back to the tech and edTech community.    REQUIREMENTS:  ● 4+ years of professional experience.  ● Expert knowledge of JavaScript (the good and the quirky).  ● Advanced knowledge of MongoDB, or similar NoSQL databases.  ● Advanced knowledge of NodeJS, and MVC patterns.  ● Advanced knowledge of computer algorithms and data structures.  ● Advanced knowledge of programming paradigms, specifically Functional, Imperative, and OOD.    YOU ARE:  ● Someone who thrives in an early­stage startup environment.  ● Excited about solving complex challenges methodologically and with simplicity.  ● Inclusive and value unique perspectives and backgrounds.  ● An excellent communicator: direct, accurate, and succinct.  ● Curious and have a growth mindset. You're not expected to know everything! We will learn together.  ● Anxious to make an impact.    TO APPLY:  Email your resume and interest to  [email protected]  (add keyword EDUCATE in the subject  field).
