Agenda for Senior Graduation Meeting April 25/April 26, 2017 Welcome Purpose of the meeting Ceremony: attitude & atmosphere Review Graduation Contract Important Date & Times Mandatory Graduation Rehearsal /Cap & Gown Distribution The rehearsal begins at 9:00am on Thursday, May 18 in the gymnasium at Arvada West. Your student must attend rehearsal in order to participate in graduation. Graduation caps and gowns will be distributed after rehearsal. Senior Daze Senior Daze slide show & picnic is on Thursday, May 18. Baccalaureate Ceremony Baccalaureate program is Thursday, May 18 at 7:00pm in the AWest Auditorium. Graduation Ceremony Seniors must report to the 1st Bank Center by 10:00am on Friday, May 19. They will check in with their Junior Escort in the Staging Area located at the south end of the arena. Graduation ceremony begins promptly at 11:00am. Important Information Cap & Gowns/Graduation Announcements There are only a few seniors who have not ordered a cap and gown. Please make sure your senior has ordered their gown. If you need additional announcements, you can place the order directly with Unique Recognition (see link on AWest webpage). Fine List/Graduation Fees Some students still owe fines or fees (including graduation fees) as of today. There are fine lists posted by the Main Office. Remember all fines and fees must be cleared in order to pick up your cap and gown. Commencement Ceremony Parking, Map and Assistance Enclosed in this packet is a map of the 1st Bank Center area and parking. ADA parking is available in the north and west lots. There will be parking attendants and security to assist you. General parking is in the Parking Garage off of Transit and Lot A. Seating You do not need tickets to attend the ceremony. Open seating begins at 10:00 am. There will be designated seating for ADA and elderly. The arena floor is reserved for graduates, honored guests, and faculty only. Small children must remain supervised by parents. Please be considerate of those attending the ceremony by remaining seated once the ceremony begins. Please note that once the ceremony begins, we cannot allow access for guest seating on the floor.
Attire Please assist in setting the tone of the ceremony. This is a dignified event and students should dress appropriately, this includes appropriate shoes. Boys – Dress shirt and tie, dark dress pants, dark socks, dress shoes. Hiking boots, tennis shoes or sandals will not be allowed. Girls – Light colored or white dresses, skirt/blouse or dress pantsuits. Gown length will be approximately mid-calf. White or light colored dress shoes preferred. No flip flops, high heels are not recommended. Parents, please make sure your son or daughter is dressed appropriately for the Commencement Ceremony. Have your student leave their personal items with you. (cell phone, jacket, purse, wallet etc.) The Ceremony In order to maintain an atmosphere of dignity and respect, we ask that students and guests refrain from engaging in any act of rowdiness, noisy behavior, or misconduct. It is an honor for graduates and their guests to hear their names as they walk across the stage to receive their diplomas. Pictures No guests will be allowed on the floor during the ceremony. Lifetouch will take photos of each student as they receive their diploma. Parents may take pictures from their seats but not on the floor. If you would like to videotape the ceremony, please do so from your seat not from the arena floor. Diplomas After the ceremony, graduates may pick up their diploma in the Staging Area at the south end of the arena. Diplomas will be at tables alphabetically with their counselors. We will only distribute diplomas to the graduate, and we will start distribution after the ceremony is over. All late fines/fees must be paid in full and gowns returned in order to receive the diploma.
Directions to the 1st Bank Center The 1st Bank Center is located on the southeast corner of Wadsworth Parkway and Highway 36
From Arvada West High School area Take Wadsworth north to Arista Turn right, east, on Arista, follow signs to 1st Bank Center Parking attendants will be on site to assist you with parking. OR
From Arvada West High School area Take Indiana north to 120th Turn right, east, to Wadsworth Turn right, south, to Uptown Turn left on Uptown and follow signs to 1st Bank Center Parking attendants will be on site to assist you with parking
Parking at the 1st Bank Center The 1st Bank Center has 3,000 parking spaces located on its grounds.
The Parking Garage on Transit Way provides parking to the general public. Lot A off of Uptown and Transit Way provides parking to the general public. North Lot is ADA parking and is located on the north side of the 1st Bank Center in front of the north entrance to the venue. West Lot is ADA parking and is located on the west side of the 1st Bank Center adjacent to the west entrance of the venue. Parking attendants will be on site to assist you with parking.
ARVADA WEST HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION AGREEMENT – 2017 Name________________________________________________________Please print clearly. (First) (Middle) (Last) I plan to attend Arvada West High School’s Commencement at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colorado on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 11:00 am. I understand the need for a formal and dignified ceremony since this occasion honors my school, my family and me. In order to participate in the graduation ceremony, I agree to the following conditions and expectations: 1. I will have successfully completed all graduation requirements as outlined by the Jefferson County Board of Education. If I am deficient any credit, I cannot participate in the graduation ceremony. 2. I will clear all fines and fees with the Financial Office by May 12, 2017. I understand that my cap and gown will not be issued until all financial obligations are met. 3. I will wear the authorized gown, cap and tassel over appropriate clothing which includes; for gentlemen, dark dress pants, dress shoes and socks, dress shirt and tie; for ladies, light colored dresses, skirt/blouses, pantsuits and dress shoes. 4. I will attend the mandatory graduation practice at Arvada West on Thursday, May 18, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. Caps and gowns will be distributed after the practice. 5. I understand that my behavior at any school sanctioned activity; including, prom, graduation practice, and Senior Daze, or my participation in a senior prank or any other behavior requiring administrative discipline per the Jeffco Conduct Code may be cause to forfeit my privilege of participating in the graduation ceremony. 6. Should I display misconduct before, during, or after the ceremony, I understand that I will be required to leave the ceremony immediately, and that my diploma will be withheld. A conference must then be held with my parents, the principal and myself after May 22, 2017.
