Core Values and Beliefs Lee Middle and High School is a community of learners dedicated to supporting academic success, individual growth, and social responsibility. We believe that in an atmosphere of respect, compassion, and support, students will reach deeply within themselves to engage in and be responsible for their learning. We commit ourselves to the idea that every student can realize his or her potential when presented with rigorous academic and personal standards, while acknowledging that these are accomplished in various ways, and are responsive to the changing needs of the community. We value regular celebration of our successes, while embracing that mistakes are made by all and are part of the learning process. We promote collaboration, honor diversity, and encourage contributions to family, community, nation, and world in order to live with a sense of purpose and readily face the challenges of the future.
Curriculum The school year at LMHS consists of four marking quarters, a midterm, and a final exam for most courses. A fully enrolled student at LMHS takes at least 6 credits each year. This includes study in four core academic subject areas plus world language, physical education, health education, or elective courses.
Graduation Requirements
English, Math, Science, and Social Studies courses are offered at standard, College Prep, and Honors levels. Courses designated as Honors are characterized by an accelerated pace, an intensive examination of content, or both. Placement in Honors classes is open enrollment, but strong consideration is given to teacher recommendations. Five points are added to Honors level classes when calculating weighted GPA.
23 credits (grades 9-12) which include: 4 English credits 3 Mathematics credits 3 Science courses 3 Social Studies credits (US History required) 1 Computer/Technology credit 1 Arts/Humanities credit 1½ Physical Education credits ½ Health credit
Advanced Placement offerings have expanded greatly in recent years and are currently available in Calculus (AB), Statistics, Physics B, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, US History, French, Spanish, and Computer Science. Not all AP courses are offered every year. AP is an open enrollment program and courses are weighted. Ten points are added to AP level classes when calculating weighted GPA. Courses designated as Advanced Placement are courses that are similar to Honors courses in level of challenge and expectations but that follow the college-level AP curricula established by the College Board. Students have the opportunity to take a range of classes online through Virtual High School. Only ten seats are available in VHS courses per semester, and the application process for these seats is competitive. Students are awarded seats in these courses based on several factors, most importantly their potential for success in an independent learning environment. Students can take college courses at Berkshire Community College for high school credit. Ten points are added when calculating weighted GPA. Internships are available to students typically in their junior and senior year. Internship work can be done off campus or on campus, and interns receive different credit levels based on the amount of work that is done and the number of hours that are worked. There is an online learning component that students enrolled in internships are required to complete to earn credit.
