Personnel Update. Elaine Jacobs who was named as one of eight 2015 Rodel Exemplary Principals, representing the best in the state; selected for her demonstrated ability to inspire our staff to contribute to school-wide success and the development of a campus that is high achieving, safe, and welcoming. Samantha Arana, Assistant Principal was put on bed rest by her physician due to pregnancy. We anticipate her return after Spring Break. Dr. Sweeney has chosen Jennifer Moore, a district pvOnline teacher, to act as Teacher On Assignment Administrative Intern in Mrs. Arana’s absence. Barbara Peterson, Administrative Secretary to Mr. Paperman, is on a short-term leave through February 6, 2015. The following certified teachers have joined our team: Adelaide Kranda/Special Education, Virginia Lara/Special Education, Matthew Hendrickson/Science, Erica Rodgers/Social Studies. We welcome Sarah Szalontay as a part-time Attendance Clerk. Athletic Trainer Bryant Schroeder had unexpectedly passed away, and it was agreed that Ms. Jacobs would make an announcement of the same to the workgroup via email.

United Parent Council (UPC). Inspiring Positive Life Choices is being hosted in joint effort by PAWS and the Horizon High School Prevention Committee and presented by notMykid , who offers educational programs. Additional information can be found on their flyer and will be on our school website. There was an interest in promoting our school events via UPC. Posting the UPC website pvupc.org on our school website was suggested.

AdvancEd. A group of AdvancEd representatives will be visiting North Canyon from February 17-18. They will be meeting with staff, ESPs, parents, and students, and our leadership team. AdvancED Parent Surveys had a l ow response of 132, in spite of exhausting efforts to encourage parents, staff, and students to participate in it.

General. The MYP re-evaluation team will be on campus April 8-10, 2015. A Sports Medicine Program is under consideration for the 2015-2016 school year.
