Dear Filmmaker: The Skagway Arts Council (SAC) is accepting submissions for our 6th Annual Winter Weekend Film Festival to be held February 21-23, 2014. Skagway Alaska is a small community of about 800 year round residents. During the summer months Skagway is a vibrant cruise ship port. Winter finds many residents unemployed and looking for diversions from the cold such as art classes, music and films after days spent outside skiing, snowshoeing or shoveling. Skagway does not currently have a movie theatre so our options are limited to what can be borrowed, leased, or streamed and watched at home. For the festival we rent a hall, LCD projector/player and large screen for film viewing. Over the past 5 years, our audience has grown and people look forward to the fresh new films such as yours, that are not widely available, have unique perspectives and are fun! Skagway Arts Council is a small group of volunteers. Currently we do not have the resources to accept a large number of submissions, screen them and select which films will be shown. Although we do not hold a formal judging with awards and prizes, we will pass on any comments we get from viewers to the filmmaker. Our current process is to research some festivals online and get recommendations from a few contacts that have viewed films at festivals around the country. We then invite filmmakers to submit films that fit our theme or that have subject matter that will interest local film buffs. Your film is one that interested our group and we feel it will appeal to our audience. All submissions will be returned postage paid to the artist promptly after the festival with an event poster and reviews. We would love to show your film at our upcoming 2014 festival! Thank you for considering our request, a submission form follows this letter on page two! Sincerely,
Donna Griffard Skagway Arts Council Board Member Film Festival Coordinator
