RUG  IN  ONE  PIECE   Beginning  Square   Cast  on  49  stitches  (or  any  uneven  number)   1st  Row:    

Knit.  Slipping  the  last  stitch.  (This  is  done  with  every  row.)  

2nd  Row:    

Knit  23  sts,  K3  together,  Knit  23  sts.  

3rd  Row:  

&  every  alternate  row,  Knit.  

4th  Row:  

K  22  sts,  K3  tog,  K  22  sts.  

Continue  decreasing  in  this  manner  until  one  stitch  is  left.  Change  colour,  or  continue  in   same  colour.  Knit  the  one  stitch  and  pick  up  along  left  hand  side  of  this  square  24  sts.  Cast   on  another  24  sts  and  commence  the  second  square.  Do  this  for  the  length  required  for  rug.   Second  Row  of  Squares        Pick  up  24  sts  on  the  right  side  of  the  last  stitch,  knit  that  stitch   and  then  cast  on  24  stitches  and  continue  decreasing  as  before.   2nd  Square  2nd  Row      Pick  up  24  sts  from  square  and  24  sts  from  last  square,  plus  the  single   st.  Continue  decreasing  as  before.   3rd  Row  of  Squares      Cast  on  24  sts,  K  the  1st  sts,    pick  up  24  sts  and  continue.   Border   Evenly  pick  up  all  the  sts  along  one  side  and  Knit  eight  or  ten  rows  (depending  on  how  wide   you  want  the  border  to  be).  Continue  to  do  this  on  all  sides.  You  may  need  to  use  a  circular   needle  to  fit  all  the  stitches  on.
