What people say about Rhythmic Movement Training "Our daughter had long standing emotional, social, sensory and attention challenges. The Rhythmic Movement Training helped immensely with these issues. She is much happier and healthier and we are so grateful to see her blossoming." S.S. "What I like about RMT is that it is very specific in it's testing procedures and in a variety of techniques to use to help integrate the reflex. It cuts down my testing and program planning time, which gives me more time for actual treatment. Other reflex inhibiting activities that I have known have not focused on the rhythmicity needed for the cerebellum to network and integrate. I am using RMT as it is complementing my other treatment modalities for sensory integration quite nicely." B.W., Ohio *If you are one of the first 5 to register, you will be entered into a draw to win a copy of Harald Blomberg’s book: Movements that Heal.
Rhythmic Movement Training Level 1 & 2 May 31- June 2, 2012 Toronto, ON
Heidi McLarty, OT Reg. (Ont.) As an adjunct to clinic therapy, Rhythmic Movement Training (RMT) can increase your effectiveness with families. This approach includes specific rhythmic movements which support your treatment to establish new connections in the brain, help the brain and nervous system mature and integrate primitive infant reflexes. RMT assists with improvements in: self regulation anxiety/panic/emotional problems hypersensitivity/phobias/overwhelm balance/coordination/posture dyslexia/attention deficit/impulsivity focus/memory speech/articulation
RMT Level One (2 Days) Primitive Reflexes, ADD/ADHD, etc. Thursday & Friday, May 31 & June 1, 2012 8:30am–5:00pm In this 2-day course, participants learn the basics of RMT, how rhythmic movements are used to assist in integrating reflexes, regulating muscle tone and stimulating growth of new brain connections to be formed. Some of the topics include: Testing/Integrating Retained Primitive Reflexes through use of RMT movements Effects of Retained Reflexes on development RMT Passive and Active Movements (and practicing these movements) Identifying Developmental Imbalances Effects of RMT on the brain and behaviour A review of brain development and what connections are stimulated through RMT movements
RMT Level Two (1 Day) Emotions and Inner Leadership. Saturday, June 2, 2012, 8:30am–5:00pm [Prerequisite –RMT Level One]
This 1-day course addresses how RMT affects emotions, the Limbic System and the importance of touch and movement in the development of emotions. Techniques for integrating the Moro or “Startle” Reflex are reviewed as well as how to release body tension and anxiety that arise from holding in emotions. This is an area that has been under explored in traditional SI workshops but has large functional applications for children and adults alike. Some topics include: How Emotional Development should occur How a retained Moro “Startle” Reflex and the
Fear Paralysis Reflex cause problems and how to help through RMT Motor Function and the Limbic System Muscle Tension and Repressed Feelings Autism and RMT
Who can benefit from taking the courses? This training is ideal for occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech and language pathologists, parents, special education teachers, kinesiologists, clinical psychologists, pediatricians and anyone else who is interested in learning techniques to help integrate reflexes and optimize developmental progress.
About the Instructor Heidi McLarty is a pediatric occupational therapist working in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Her work is mainly with preschoolers with a variety of delays, genetic conditions, physical disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, Learning Disabilities, etc. Heidi has an extensive background and training in Sensory Processing Disorder and methods to incorporate Sensory Integrative treatment methods.
Heidi’s top 5 reasons she LOVES RMT: 1) This work is the "best bang for your buck" when considering it can help with calming, general development, coordination, anxiety, visual skills, learning, etc! 2) She has seen good developmental progress, along with many parents who have done the exercises with their children (see website for further case studies/parent experiences). 3) The movements are EASY for anyone to do. They can be demonstrated in a matter of a few minutes, pretty much anywhere, and without expensive equipment! This program is a way to increase your effectiveness by providing a straight forward home program to families so they can work on sensory integration 7 days a week. 4) The training doesn’t cost a fortune to take and doesn't take very long to complete! 5) Great developmental progress is frequently noticed within a short time! RMT helps the brain to make new connections which are needed for further development to improve attention, emotional and self regulation. For information contact: Heidi McLarty, OT Reg. (Ont).
