EDITORIAL
From Editors’ Desk
Swagatham to Amritha Varshini! I am elated to present the 23rd issue of Amritha Varshini. In this issue we are starting a new series of articles based on Avvaiyar’s works. To start with we are commencing with “Aathi Soodi”. Those who have studied Tamil language can never forget the Aathi Soodi which starts with “Aram Seyya Virumbu”. One may even wonder why we need to study this now which we have learnt in the school. What looks like simple does also contains ample message in it which are meant not only for children but even for men across all ages. The society at large is narrow minded busy fulfilling their quest for desires forgetting the basic dharmas and values one should practice. Avvai bridges this gap of missing values to new and future generations. We take this opportunity to thank Smt Ramadevi who had kindly consented to write all the works of Avvaiyar for the benefit of Amritha Varshini readers. When I decided to present Annapoorna Sthothram in this issue I received the grace of Mother Annapoorna by making me entering the Kitchen for the first time in my life, when my better half had to go to her native for some family emergency. I was forced to cook for my two children and the divine Mother gave me an opportunity to realize her grace. It is by the sheer grace of Annapoorneshwari the hunger of the entire world is getting appeased. One good thing which I observed in Gurgaon is people feeding poor which is called as “Langar”. They cook and feed the needy near temples and market areas which appease the hunger of the poor people. Kanchi Mahaperiyava also initiated a similar programme known as “Pidi Arisi Thittam” wherein one should keep aside a handful of rice every day separately and at the end of a month shall cook and distribute to the needy. One can also find this in the Aaththi Soodi wherein Avvaiyar says “Ayyam Ittu Unn” meaning “Eat after giving food the needy”. Let us recite the Annapoorna Sthothram, so that we receive her grace to feed the poor people. There is one more specialty in this issue. It is a divine coincidence wherein the biography of both our guiding Gurus, Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi and Kanchi Mahaperiyava is getting published in this issue. While the biography of Maharshi is being published as a prelude to the new series “Ramana Vazhi – The Path of Sri Ramana” authored by Sri P.K. Venkatachalam, the life history of Mahaperiyava is written by Sri V. S. Krishnan. May the grace of Maharshi and Mahaperiyva continue to guide us in our life. I am sure all the articles of Amritha Varshini help us improve our values which will ultimately lead us to stay near the Lord always. Your feedback and valuable inputs will definitely help us to improve. Hence don’t miss to share!
