Qualifications for a 90-Day Temporary License for Emergency Situations A temporary license will only be considered in the case of death of the administrator, termination of the administrator, resignation of the administrator, or other similar emergent circumstances. Promotion or transfer made at the discretion of the ownership, management, or the facility governing board does not qualify as an emergency. The applicant cannot practice in the capacity of a nursing home administrator until the Board has approved his or her application for a temporary license.
If the applicant is the current Director of Nursing (DON) at the facility, and registered as such with the CDPHE, and the facility is replacing the administrator under emergent circumstances then:
All other applicants must: 1. Submit an application for a temporary license. A representative of the facility must also attest to the nature of the emergency; and
The DON is only required to submit an application for a temporary emergency license. A representative of the facility must also attest to the nature of the emergency. The DON is NOT required to submit a separate application for licensure (by exam, endorsement, or reinstatement) prior to having the application for a temporary emergency license considered.
2. Submit an application for licensure as a nursing home administrator (by exam, endorsement, or reinstatement).
Only after the application for permanent licensure (step 2 above) has been reviewed and the applicant has been approved to sit for the state/national examination will the temporary emergency application (step 1 above) be considered. After the application has been reviewed and approved by the Program Director, a temporary license (not to exceed 90-days) will be issued. The Program Director is authorized to issue one 90-day extension.
