Pueblo South Football Core Elements Player Expectations Colt Standards of Performance Conduct and Character Expectations of Team Areas Parental Partnership and Procedures Expectations of Program Leaders Team Calendar

Pueblo South Football Core Elements Team Purpose: The Pueblo South football team is dedicated to the young men that are Pueblo South football players. Colts true to the fiber, we are committed to developing the young men in our program to become leaders of our community and beyond, men of character and integrity, examples of great work ethic, and most importantly dedicated and high achieving students in the classroom.

Philosophy Statement: The foundation of our program is based on character, work ethic, commitment, discipline, having fun and creating a brotherhood. We believe in setting high expectations and teaching those in our program how to exceed high expectations. There are no shortcuts in life and you must endure the challenge of the process. We believe that being committed to a common goal and working for the guy next to you is much more gratifying then the menial rewards of instant gratification. We believe that discipline is less of rules and consequences, and more of teaching and doing the right thing all the time. We believe in having fun through playing a sport, becoming teammates, competing against ourselves and our opponents, keeping the game of life in perspective, and building relationships. We strive to create a brotherhood amongst the players, coaches, and parents. A brotherhood where all have a deep compassion for each other and where all have a great support for everyone.

Colt Football Mission It is our mission to become a great team where everyone understands their value and role to the team. We desire to establish leadership characteristics to all members, instill an attitude that team accolades are the most rewarding and that individual accomplishments are a reflection of not the individual but of the entire team. We covet the opportunity to create a culture that believes in working hard, being committed and accountable, believes in great effort and attitude, and putting the best for us before the best for me.

Player Expectations No matter what we do in life we are always representing something other than ourselves. You are a representative of yourself, your family, your teammates and your coaches. When making choices we need to ask ourselves if what we are about to do is a good representation of the people that depend on you. Discipline  

Do the right thing Do what is asked of you

Character   

Be a positive leader Be honest. Reveal your true self

Attitude    

Be a great teammate Have great, positive energy Be enthusiastic WE , US, OURS

Loyalty  

Effort   

Takes no talent Empty your tank Mental toughness

Colt Standards of Performance In life, we are what we repeatedly do. EXCELLENCE, then, is not an ACT, but a HABIT. The Colt Football Standards of Performance are standards of EXCELLENCE to build champions. 

Define yourself everyday through hard work, focus, and dedication.

Be mentally and physically prepared prior to the start of practice or workout.

Give your absolute best every day.

Bring a positive, team first attitude. Nothing less is acceptable.

Expect the best from yourself, your teammates, and your coaches.

Never sit down in the weight room or on the field.

Pay great attention to detail. Greatness is being good at all the little things.

Have great respect for yourself, teammates, coaches, and program by controlling your language and emotions.

Be a Winner. Act like a winner everyday and base those actions on hard work, discipline, honesty, commitment, and accountability.

Conduct and Character A person’s true character is not revealed when things are going well or when others are around. True character is revealed in times of adversity when great character is needed most.      

Being a member of this team is a privilege. The character of a student athlete is held in the highest regard Be a great teammate, someone to rely and depend on. Take pride in being a part of a TEAM. Take pride in South High School. Lying, cheating and stealing will not be tolerated. The integrity of the program will not be sacrificed.

Inappropriate Substance It is not possible for you as a student athlete to reach your potential, compete at the highest level, or have a great positive impact on your team if you use drugs or alcohol. These are major deterrents of success.    

All district policies concerning tobacco, alcohol, or drugs will be strictly adhered to. Violation of this policy will result in disciplinary action under district guidelines, consequences from the sanctions for discipline policy, and will not be considered in good standing until the athlete has earned that honor back. A parent meeting may also be requested. As a representative of the program and a model student athlete these should be a non issue. Don’t negatively affect your body. Supplements are not encouraged over proper nutrition, diet and hydration.

Sanctions for Discipline Policy Areas of discipline and sanctions are as follows, steps may be skipped and do not have to follow the following order depending on violation or reason for discipline.    

Extra conditioning Will not be allowed to participate for a certain amount of playing time Will be deemed ineligible for discipline reason/considered not in good standing Asked to turn in equipment.

Different actions will warrant different sanctions. The head coach will determine the sanctions and that sanction will be discussed with school administration. Parents will be notified by their student athlete and head coach if their child will be disciplined through the policy which will require dismissal from team.

Expectation of Team Areas Practice Practice is mandatory. The JV and Varsity practice calendar is located in this packet and will be followed accordingly without any unforeseen circumstances or situations arising. We will have mandatory practice and/or film sessions on Saturdays and holidays. Attendance and participation at every practice is expected for participation in the game.

Training Room If an athlete feels that they are injured they should notify the head coach immediately. We need to know what is going on so we are able to communicate with all parties involved. The athletic training room is for taping, treatment, and rehab. It is not a valid excuse to be late to practice, film or meetings. Plan accordingly. Athletes will be required to sign in at time of treatment or rehab. Athletes will need a note to resume activity after being seen by a doctor. Do not hang out in the training room if not being treated or taped.

Locker Room The Locker room should be kept clean at all times. Pick up after yourself. Keep all equipment in your locked locker and change before and after practice in the locker room. You are responsible for all equipment. All lost equipment will need to be replaced.

Bus Trips All members are expected to ride the bus to and from games, academic exceptions only. Bus trips should be quiet and focused and all bus safety rules will be followed All trash will be removed from the bus at the end of the trip.

Parental Partnerships and Procedures Parents and family play a vital role in the development of our program and the development of their child as a team member. Your support of the program is very much appreciated. There are numerous opportunities to be involved in your son’s interests and at times they may not act as if it is important to them, it really is, and they appreciate it greatly. As coaches we are here to support your son’s and over time we have built relationships with them. If at any time we can help support you with your son please do not hesitate to contact us. You can contact me at [email protected] or (719) 423-3924 is my direct number at school. Please use these avenues to contact me; even in cases of emergency my email is automatically received. I will be happy to talk with you regarding your son’s grades, personal issues, or about anything in their life that may be affecting them outside of football. I will not discuss playing time with you until your son has addressed this issue with his position coach and me first. I will not discuss other members of the team with you at any time. I am a very approachable person but the 24 hours before or after the game to discuss anything football related is not a good time. I will always be available to help your son in any way that I possibly can. As a partner in our program, you have a great influence in our development. Screaming or yelling at your kid, other kids or their coaches from the stands is not a positive promotion of our football program. Your son, his teammates, and his coaches’ work incredibly hard, sacrifice, and put in more time than you can imagine, playing a role in the game that is for the student athlete’s enjoyment. Guidelines for communication    

Playing Time: Playing time is earned through the student athletes      

Expectations of Program Leaders Program leaders have an exceptional opportunity to help influence the lives of young people. We will use or platform to create a high energy, positive, enthusiastic, hard working, and committed individuals. Relationships  
