PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF EMPLOYEES Background Professional development is the responsibility of both the employee and the district. The district encourages lifelong learning and professional growth and development for all employees. Professional development is designed to address the current and future needs of the district, and to develop and enhance the knowledge, skills and ability of the employee as they relate to employees’ individual job assignments. Procedures 1. The superintendent, human resources shall establish procedures by which employees may apply for professional development activities and seek support provided or otherwise sponsored by the district. These procedures include consultation between the employee and immediate supervisor. 2. The district will have available to employees a range of in-service and workshop offerings, within budgetary limitations, that are accessible on an ongoing basis. 3. The district’s employee groups will have access through formal application to designated professional development funds, budget permitting. 4. Guidelines and criteria for accessing these particular professional development funds for each employee group are reviewed and communicated annually to all employees. 5. Professional development activities are subject to annual budgeting decisions.
