PRIVATE INSTRUMENTAL AND VOICE LESSONS 2017 Parents and Caregivers must read and retain this sheet. 



Tuition is offered on a range of musical instruments and voice, as listed over. Specialist itinerant music staff are available for lessons within and, to a limited degree, out of school hours. A commitment to regular home practice and attendance at lessons is essential for progress to be made.

General Conditions 1. The teaching relationship with the student is private, with standards and monitoring of lessons under the management of the school’s Director of Performing Arts. Enquiries relating to tuition should be directed to the teacher concerned, or to Linda Procter, Performing Arts Assistant 2. ph: DDI 5502894 or by emailing [email protected] or to the Performing Arts Director Shelagh Thomson. 2.

Enrolments for lessons must be made on the appropriate forms through the Performing Arts office. Information will be passed to the teacher, and the teacher will contact the student to arrange the lesson time.

Lessons will generally be held during class time, with only a limited number of times available outside curriculum time. Availability of lessons outside curriculum time is entirely at the teacher’s discretion, and priority will generally be given to year 11-13 students.

Lessons occur at the same time each week, with the school timetable rotating over seven days. This means a student will not miss the same subject each week, and generally any particular subject should be affected only once or twice over the term. It is the student’s responsibility to catch up on school work missed. The Junior School operates a 5 day Timetable.

Students are encouraged not to have more than two lessons per week in curriculum time.

Junior School and beginners should enrol for a 30 minute lesson.

Lessons are generally individual, and may be shared with one other at the discretion of the teacher (see below for charging rates).

It is expected that students having piano lessons will have access to a piano outside school hours.

Fees are $72.00 per hour, $52.00 per 45 minute, $36.00 per 30 minute lessons (plus GST if applicable). Students having lessons in pairs will each be charged 40% less on these rates, and will be given at the discretion of the teacher involved. Rock Band fees are $520.00 per term, divided equally between group members, e.g. 4 members in the band will pay $130.00 each per term, 5 members will pay $104.00 per term. This is a set fee which is payable in advance and includes any student absences.

School Instrument Hire 9.

A small number of instruments may be available for hire through the school and will be invoiced for separately by the school at a cost of $160 per year plus $100 refundable deposit . Where instruments are not available families will be referred on to a suitable outside hirer.

Additional costs may include tutor books and sheet music, and teachers may also make a reasonable additional charge to recover photocopying costs.

HIRERS MUST COMPLETE A HIRE AGREEMENT WITH THE SCHOOL FOR SCHOOL INSTRUMENTS.

Music teachers will give students their personal phone numbers and parents and students should contact them directly for routine matters. Phone numbers can also be obtained from the Performing Arts Office.

The agreed time for a lesson is reserved exclusively for that student. Students unable to attend their lesson for ANY reason must notify the teacher in advance, at least 24 hours before the lesson. If appropriate notification is not given the lesson will be charged.

A minimum number of lessons per term will be charged regardless of attendance. This will be based on the number of teaching weeks in the term. In 2017 Term 1: 9 weeks, Term 2: 10 weeks, Term 3: 9 weeks, Term 4: (Seniors) 3 weeks (Yrs 7—10) 7 weeks.

A report from the teacher will be given on attendance, interest and achievement at the end of the academic year.

Additional lessons may be taught by agreement with the tutor.

Fees and Obligations

1.

The contractual arrangement for lessons is between the parent/caregiver and the teacher of the instrument. Parents must pay on invoice from the teacher and cheques should be made payable to the teacher. Teachers may invoice and expect payment in advance of lessons delivered. If payment is not received within four weeks of invoice, lessons may be cancelled at the discretion of the tutor. Teachers may invoice up to two terms in advance, offer a discount for early payment, and charge a 10% penalty for late payment..

It is expected that students are enrolled for a complete academic year. Students must re-enrol for lessons at the beginning of every new academic year.

Termination of lessons may be made by giving the teacher four lessons notice in writing, signed by a parent or caregiver. Verbal advice by the student is not sufficient. Itinerant teachers will expect payment for four lessons in lieu of notice.

Lessons missed by students without appropriate notice may not necessarily be made up, whether or not they have been charged for. In the event of the teacher being unavailable to attend (due to illness, public holidays, teacher only days etc) the lesson will be made up, or the minimum charge adjusted accordingly.

Please note: Internal curriculum assessments take priority over itinerant lessons. Students in this position are requested to inform their instrumental teacher that they can not make the lesson (they must do this in advance or are charged for the lesson), and arrange for a catch-up lesson to be made.

Performance Evenings - Itinerant Teacher Student’s Music Recital At least two performance evenings will be held each year. Students will be put forward to perform via their teacher. It is important that students take this opportunity to gain performance experience as part of their musical and personal development.
