Press Release JuLy 2013
Izalco CHRONO Simply the fastest To be very fast on a bike, you have to beat the wind. To beat the wind, you have to be smart and innovative. The all-new Izalco Chrono uses intelligently designed aero tube profiles to create a frame that is 30% lighter than its predecessor, while still having the stiffness required to convert 100% of your power into speed.

Focus German ENGINEERED German engineering and a history of winning RACES are both very deep in the Focus DNA. For over 20 years, FOCUS has designed and developed race winning bikes. The engineering, product management, production, assembly, and quality control teams are all managed from the company‘s headquarter in Cloppenburg, Germany. While the design, engineering, testing, and assembly is happening in Germany, the FOCUS carbon specialists have been working very closely with our carbon production experts in Asia. Quality control and product testing takes place in both Germany and Asia to guarantee the highest levels of precision and quality. Over the past five years, FOCUS has invested significantly in design, development, and engineering to create the next generation of products like the Izalco Chrono. Aerodynamics have become increasingly important in cycling, so we’ve maintained a close development relationship with aerodynamics icon Andreas Walser, combined with extensive wind tunnel time. This commitment is readily visible in our next generation of product. All of the technical innovation and expertise is then tested by our numerous professional athletes in real world conditions. These riders and teams rigorously test every new product design and their feedback shapes the final product. Since 2009, FOCUS bikes have been ridden at the highest levels of professional cycling. For 2013, we are proud to partner with Team AG2R La Mondiale in the UCI WorldTour and Team Jelly Belly p/b Kenda in the United States. These teams and riders ultimately help shape every product through feedback from countless kilometers of racing and training.

Our Goals Our objective was to create an aero platform that cheats the wind of any advantage by developing leading edge aerodynamics. The bike had to not only be aero, but also deliver unmatched pedaling efficiency through lightweight and stiffness.
Aerodynamics Working with Andreas Walser, we created aero tube profiles that smooth airflow and allow it to pass cleanly around the bike and rider.
key elements of aerodynamics + narrow tube profiles + integrated stem that blends into top tube + smooth, straight top tube + hidden brakes in fork and chainstays + internal cable routing
Weight Though weight is not as critical as aerodynamics, when battling the wind, it does help. The frame and fork of the new Izalco Chrono were very much part of the design process, and it shows in a 30% lighter frame than the How we test our product previous version.
›
key elements to reach the reduced weight + advanced molding and carbon layup processes allow for lighter weight without sacrificing stiffness + frame weight is just 1.390 g for size M + weight of the new Max Flow Trespas aero fork is only 430 g
Focus product is tested and proven by the following tests and standards: + EN standard for fatigue and impact tests + DCW fatigue and impact tests that surpass EN standards + Professional athletes and teams, and FOCUS product testers, in real world conditions 03
Stiffness Utilizing P2T* (Power Transfer Technology), we have been able to produce a frame with ultra slim, very aero tube profiles that still maintains the necessary stiffness to convert power to speed. P2T is an overall design concept that takes molding techniques, layup processes, tube shapes, and other factors into consideration in the beginning - rather than as an afterthought. Narrow is aero, but not necessarily stiff on its own. Thanks to P2T, the Izalco Chrono is able to be both incredibly aero and incredibly stiff.

IZALCO CHRONO 1.0 To build the fastest bike possible we combined our passionate team of designers and engineers with the experience of aerodynamics expert Andreas Walser. Many hours of wind tunnel testing and working with different frame and tubing models gave the development team the critical answers to build our fastest time trial bike ever. Intelligent, aerodynamic tube shapes, are assembled into a frame with 30% lighter weight than the previous Chrono model, while still producing the required stiffness to turn every ounce of muscle power into maximum speed. The new Izalco Chrono - intelligent design for high speed!

Technical Details
frame Details: Seat Post: With the easily adjustable seat post, the rider has the choice of virtual seat tube angles between 75-79 degrees. Seat Post clamp: Integrated and hidden within the frame, the seat clamp provides a no-slip grip of the post while remaining invisible from the wind. Headset & Stem: Both the headset and stem are uniquely integrated into the head tube of the frame, providing an ultra sleek integration. Rider can choose between time trial and triathlon stem positions. Integrated aero stem: Unique FOCUS design blends into the frame’s head tube and provides clean airflow at the front of the bike. Multiple positions are possible, to fit riders perfectly. Fully integrated brakes system, front & rear: The front brake is integrated into the fork blades while the rear brake is cleanly hidden behind the bottom bracket. Both brakes are invisible to the wind and all brake cables run inside the frame. Ultra slim profile seat stay: Ultra slim profile tubing is the trademark design of the new Izalco Chrono. The seat stays have been specifically shaped to take airflow away from the rotating rear wheel, allowing it to exit cleanly past the flying bike. 06

Technical Details Bottom bracket: Full carbon PF30 oversized bottom bracket for ultimate stiffness and power transfer. Frame weight: 1.390 g (size M) Possible drivetrain systems: The frame has been design to suit all current gear systems. Mechanical, electronical, with integrated cable routing. Shimano Di2 and Campagnolo EPS. Dropouts: Adjustable, rear-facing dropouts accommodate multiple tires sizes (max. 23 mm) and allow the rear wheel to be optimally positioned tightly against the seat tube.
fork Details: Max flow Trespas Design fork: A specially shaped fork with a wider stance helps air to flow away from the rotating front wheel, which improves the airflow around the down tube, minimizing wind resistance. Fork size: Full carbon, tapered steer 1” to 1 1/8” Weight: 430 g Frame sizes: The new Izalco Chrono frame is offered in four sizes. With easily tuned saddle positioning, the rider has the choice of virtual seat tube angles between 75 – 79 degrees. In addition, you can adjust the integrated mono clamp stem to find your perfect winning position. Stiffness: Utilizing P2T, the new Izalco Chrono is able to deliver unmatched stiffness to match its unmatched aero performance. With improved stiffness, pedaling efficiency is increased for those precious fractions of seconds that determine victory.
