Pre-College Spanish Language Program for High School Students July 1st to 22nd
Explore the historical city of Pamplona with its San Fermin celebrations and the beautiful coastal city of San Sebastian!
BRIEF PROGRAM OVERVIEW The Pre-College Program is designed for incoming juniors and seniors interested in the intellectual challenge and rigorous pace of a true undergraduate experience. Participants will enjoy three weeks of cultural and language immersion at the Universidad de Navarra northern campuses. During the first week, students will attend classes on our main campus in Pamplona and experience the San Fermin celebrations. The following two weeks they will study in San Sebastian, at our Engineering SchoolTECNUN campus. Every student that completes the program will receive official credit by the Universidad de Navarra, transferable to home institutions. ILCE programs are taught by outstanding local professors from the Universidad de Navarra and by distinguished invited professors from other universities such as Columbia University, University of Oxford, Southern Mississippi University, and the University of Miami. The official arrival date at Pamplona is July 1st. The program offers a pick-up service to and from the local airport, train, and bus station. Other pick-up destinations may be organized by request.

PROGRAM OF STUDY Students will take a Spanish written and oral communication course, for a total of 45 hours, 40 hours in-class and 5 hours participating in academic activities outside of the classroom. We offer intermediate and advance level Spanish classes. Communication and culture courses are conducted in Spanish from the beginning of the program. Each week the program will focus on a particular theme that directly relates to Spain, and the local history and culture. The weekly co-curricular activities are led by ILCE professors and designed to enrich cultural immersion in Spain to better integrate the host culture. Students will have the opportunity to visit many historical sites, learn about the country's unique history, and become immersed in Spanish culture.
SUMMER 2018 ACADEMIC THEMES AND WEEKLY ACTIVITIES: Week 1. Getting to know the Universidad de Navarra, Pamplona, and the San Fermin festivities: Pamplona Old Town and welcome barbecue Cathedral of Santa Maria la Real, university showcase and team sports activities at Universidad de Navarra Pamplona Scavenger Hunt and Rumba Flamenca workshop Excursion to Olite Castle Universidad de Navarra Museum San Fermín celebrations and cultural events (such as Procession of San Fermin, the Running of the Bulls and chocolate with churros, and the Comparsa de Gigantes y Cabezudos)
Week 2. San Sebastian, Bilbao, and French Basque Country: San Sebastian Old Town San Telmo Museum Pintxos lunch at Downtown San Sebastian Aquarium Day trip to Bilbao and Guggenheim Museum Day trip to French Basque Country Kayaking and other beach activities
Week 3. Spanish Culture and Cuisine: The Basque Gastronomy by the Basque Culinary Center Masterchef event at Tecnun Gastronomic Society Mount Igueldo cable car and amusement park Hiking route Beach activities Farewell Dinner

Includes administration fees, books and supplies, health and travel insurance, and transcript of records. Please note that the program fees do not include the cost of travel to and from Pamplona. Participants are expected to make their own travel arrangements.
Additonal estimated personal expenses Students will be responsible for personal costs not specifically mentioned above including: airfare, and personal expenses. These additional expenses are estimated to total approximately $1,200 to $1,600: ($1000 airfare) plus ($200-$600 personal expenses).
ACCOMPANYING TEACHER FUNDING 1 accompanying teacher stays free with every group of 10 students in the program.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES* 600€ Includes all outside of classroom activities. This activities can be modified to fit the needs of the groups.

Housing fee includes all meals during the program. In Pamplona students will live oncampus in residence halls and in San Sebastian students will live in a residence hall located downtown. Students will live with professors and TAs during the program. Rooms are comfortably furnished, each with a private bathroom. *Optional
