Postdoctoral Fellow, Plantain Transformation (Ref No: DDG-R4D/PDF/PT/01/16) Background: The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) invites applications for the internationally recruited position of Postdoctoral Fellow, Plantain Transformation. Position Responsibilities: Conduct research for developing nematode resistant plantain.
Generate and evaluate transgenic plantain for plant parasitic nematode resistance under glass house conditions. Conduct molecular characterization of transgenic events of plantain. Collect, analyze and manage data related to research project. Compile reports on research progress by the deadline specified. Supervise staffs on the project. Handle management of the project. Communicate and follow up with project members at IITA and Queen's University Belfast, UK. Publish research findings in referred journals and present research findings at seminars, workshops and conferences and other appropriate events organized internally at IITA or at relevant external events. Participate actively in monthly meetings, review and planning meetings, resource mobilization, and contribute to strategic research planning. Report any problems, challenges and conflicts to the project manager in writing.
Comply with institute policies. Educational Qualifications The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Plant Biotechnology/Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/ Life Sciences with specialization in Plant Transformation. Core Competencies
Strong knowledge and experience in Plant Transformation. Experience in molecular characterization and evaluation of transgenic plants for nematode resistance. Knowledge of gene cloning and construct development. Demonstrated ability to write and publish journal articles.
Ability to manage numerous tasks simultaneously. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary and multi-cultural environment.
Duty station: Nairobi, Kenya
General information: The contract will be for a period of eighteen months (from 1st March 2016 to 31 August 2017). IITA offers internationally competitive remuneration package paid in U.S. Dollars.
