I enjoyed the wide variety of elective courses available here. I get to learn new things other than Medicine such as Calculus and all sorts of different languages. The Penang campus also provides many clubs and societies which includes the PMC PALS (Peer-Assisted Learning Society), football, badminton, basketball and tennis clubs,an adventure club and a variety of cultural and religious societies.
ALUMNI “The medical education I obtained was absolutely outstanding. It prepared me very well for real world medicine and opened countless doors in my career. I most importantly benefited from the overall vision and culture of this Irish-Malaysian partnership. At RCSI I was afforded the opportunity to interact with brilliant students from all corners of the globe. We forged long-lasting friendships and exchanged ideas and perspectives on medicine and life. It was invaluable holistic education. On returning to PMC, in addition to outstanding and vigorous clinical education, I was then provided and in with personal guidance, mentorship and support by faculty to execute these ideas. Faculty were more than willing to entertain “unconventional” tracks within their curriculum for the overall growth and benefit of students. It’s no surprise that some of these faculty members remain my mentors to this very day – a testament to how much I value my time at PMC.” Dr Dhssraj Singh, MD (Class of 2007) Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Fellow Cleveland Clinic – Cleveland, Ohio, USA “I graduated from Penang Medical College in 2004. The course and training is very well structured, complementing an easy pathway into both Malaysian and Irish hospitals. PMC helped me secure a job in Ireland, where I returned in 2009 to complete my specialist training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. I completed my training in 2013 in Ireland, where, I continued to work. I am proudly returning to Malaysia as an O&G specialist I have absolutely no regrets joining PMC and I hope to join the academic team in the future. Dr Thiagu Chidambaram (Class of 2004) Obstetrician & Gynaecologist Sarawak General Hospital “Born and raised in the beautiful Pearl of the Orient, Penang Medical College was the perfect school for me – it offered the opportunity to be part of two Irish partner schools (RCSI and UCD) with a long heritage of providing world-class medical education, and ultimately provided me with an internationally recognised medical degree (MB BCh BAO) – all this while being close to family and friends at home! Medicine is a lifelong learning experience – and my training, which has taken me from Malaysia to Ireland and Canada, has definitely been a fulfilling and enriching one – made possible with the excellent foundations I learnt during my fledging years at PMC - my alma mater” Dr Teoh Chia Wei, MB BCh BAO LRCSI, MRCPI (Paediatrics) (Class of 2006) Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Nephrology The Hospital for Sick Children - Toronto Canada
