PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST Nebraska Horse Expo

RULES • All entries MUST be postmarked by Friday, October 24, 2014. • An exhibitor must have personally taken the photograph they are entering and the photo must not have appeared in any previous Nebraska Horse Expo (NHE) photography contest. • NO photographs from PROFESSIONALS will be accepted. A professional is deemed to be anyone who derives more than 50% of their income from the taking and/or processing of photographs. • This contest is open to all types of equine subjects (horses, mules, burros, drafts, miniature, etc.). All photographs must have an equine in the image, with the exception of the Still Life class. • Any visibly altered photograph must be entered in Lot 3 (16 & over) or Lot 6 (15 & under): Digital/Computer/Other Manipulation • The contest is not limited to Nebraska Residents. • Exhibitor can only enter ONE photograph PER class. • A photograph can only be entered in one class (not multiple classes). EX: a color photograph cannot be changed to Black and white and entered into the Black and White class as well as the Color class. • Each exhibit must have an entry label and signed waiver. • The NHE Photo Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry which they do not deem suitable for the display at the Expo or which does not meet the criteria of the class for which it is submitted. In addition, NHE reserves the right to reclassify an entry, as appropriate. • All exhibits are entered at the EXHIBITOR’S OWN RISK. The NHE and Photo Contest Committee will not be responsible for any damage to the exhibits. Reasonable care will be exercised to prevent damage to entries.
TO SUBMIT AN ENTRY All photographs must be 8” x 10” and mounted as follows: • With black matting on foam core or mat board (for stability), total overall maximum size 11 x 14 inches (see illustration) • No oval or circular openings • Only one print per mat • No framed prints will be accepted Complete and attach one entry form to the back of each photograph you enter. Each photograph must have an entry form. Be sure to include the Lot and Class number on each entry form. If entering in the youth class, state your age as of November 1, 2014.
Many times Expo guests are curious as to where a picture is taken, such as a state park, etc. We encourage you to share this information if you desire. Exhibits MUST be postmarked by Friday, October 24, 2014 Mail to:

DISPLAY OF EXHIBITS: Photographs will be on display during the 2014 Nebraska Horse Expo: Friday, November 14th, noon to 9:00 p.m. Saturday, November 15th, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, November 16th, 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

RELEASE OF EXHIBITS: • Exhibits will be released on Sunday, November 16, 2014, between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the Nebraska Horse Expo. Exhibits will be released on a first come, first served basis. • All exhibits must be released by Photo Contest Personnel. • If you would like your exhibits returned to you by mail, please note this request when you send the photo. Be sure to include a self-‐addressed mailing envelope with sufficient postage for the exhibit(s) to be returned with your entry. If another person is picking up your photograph(s), note this request on your entry form as well. • Exhibits received without return postage and self-‐addressed envelope or that are not picked up at the Expo WILL NOT BE RETURNED. • Please allow 2 weeks for the return of exhibits in the mail. Lot 2 BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPH 16 and Over The photos entered in this class may be printed from black and white film or a digital camera with a black and white setting or changed to black and white using appropriate software. JUDGING Three independent judges will evaluate each exhibit prior to the opening of the Nebraska Horse Expo. Judging includes, but is not limited to the following criteria: • Technique: Focus, lighting, exposure and depth of field. • Composition: Focal point, balance and the way the print is framed with your lens. • Impact: Creativity, interest, mood and/or humor appropriateness for class.
