Desccription of Position College of the Sequoias is seeking g a candidate for f a full-timee tenure-trrack position in the Philoso ophy Departm ment. This position will begin August A 2017. Duties includ de teaching a full rangge of lower diivision coursees including critical c thinkingg, logic, introd ductory philosophy, ethics, and comparaative religionss. Class assig gnments in ph hilosophy may incllude evening classes, week kend classes, and teaching at any off our location ns in Visalia, Hanford H and//or Tulare. Other reesponsibilitiess include hold ding office ho ours and participaating fully in departmentall responsibilitties (course outlines,, program and d course assesssment, progrram review, schedulee planning an nd staffing, an nd advising stu udents) to meet thee mission of th he College. The candidate must meet the following criteria. The degree must be from an institution accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges or the equivalent. • Master’s degree in philosophy OR • Bachelor’s degree in philosophy AND Master’s degree in humanities or religious studies, OR • The equivalent AND • Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Initial placement with Master’s degree ranges from $57,943 to $76,393. Medical/dental/vision insurance program for employee and dependents. Retirement Plan provided Employee life insurance ($100,000) is provided. Contract period is for ten (10) months during the regular academic year beginning August 2017 through May 2018. Pre-service orientation and/or in-service meetings will be offered in August 2017. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and membership in the College of the Sequoias Teachers Association (COSTA) or payment of a service fee is required.
Screening Procedure Only complete application packages will be evaluated by the screening committee. Application materials will be evaluated to determine how fully the applicant meets the Desirable Qualifications. The most successful interviewees will be invited to a second interview with the District President. All costs incurred as a result of the application/selection process shall be borne by the candidate.
