The classroom teacher also maintains a positive learning environment for the kids. Prior to the beginning of each semester, the teacher instructs the high school students in child development principles, age appropriate learning activities, positive guidance, safety, and discipline. The teacher also stresses the importance of nutritious snacks. The high school students help as aides in the classroom, develop educational projects for the children, prepare nutritious snacks, observe the children’s behavior, and maintain an observation notebook. Students who elect to participate in Child Development I and II classes are often interested in pursuing a career working with young children such as elementary education, pediatric nursing, psychology, or early childhood development.
