I love reading this to my son and mimicking what the animals are doing in the story By Aundrea I bought both “My Mom Loves Me” and “My Dad Loves Me” shortly after our son was born. Of course, he didn't really care about books at that point, but I read to him anyway, hoping in some area of his brain he was absorbing it all. Now that my little munchkin is 1 this is one of our favorites. I love that I have my book with him and my husband has something to read with him the nights I’m working. They are similar enough to create a familiarity, but still have slightly different words and pictures. He doesn't have a very long attention span, so any book that has more than two sentences on each page he loses interest in. This book is great because each page has one sentence describing something mom does with you and a beautiful corresponding painted picture. The words are written in white, but the verb is colored a different color, helping accentuate the action. My son obviously doesn't notice or care about this, but it just makes the book more aesthetically pleasing for mommy. This is a fun book that we kind of act out. So the first page is “My mom plays with me” with a mommy and baby kitten playing together. When we read this I tickle my son and say “your mommy loves playing with you”. Next page says “my mom kisses me” with a goat mom kissing her baby and I shower my son with kisses. A few pages later “My mom cuddles with me” with a sheep and lamb, I pull him really close to me and say “your mom loves snuggling with you”. With each page I
try to act out with him what the animals in the picture are doing. I know he probably doesn't really “get it” yet, but when I bring out the book he smiles and gets really happy and actually sits on my lap for the whole book. The “My Dad Loves Me” has the same beautiful artwork, but geared a little more toward what dads tend to do more. Like “My dad protects me” “My dad tickles me” “My dad naps with me” “My dad teaches me”. Overall, I definitely recommend these books! Update: 14 months after my first post I can say that we still love this book. My son has it down. He knows what I'm going to say and acts it out. When we get to the kiss page, he turns around and gives me a big smooch. When we get to swim, he makes a swimming motion and so on. We are now talking more about the animals in the story on each page since he has a longer attention span. This is one of the best books I've bought though (along with most Sandra Boynton books and The Goodnight Train). 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
