Most helpful customer reviews 17 of 22 people found the following review helpful. A Historian Makes Historic Errors By Randy Owen IMO, this is a feeble attempt by the author to redeem himself. In 2003, after the uproar by LBJ's family, friends and advisors that he was considered a suspect in an episode of "The Men Who Killed Kennedy," Gillon had to preface future showings with the advisory to viewers that it was just a theory. The episode (and two others) were removed by the History Channel even after that! The
book is subtitled "Oswald, Kennedy, and the Conspiracy That Will Not Die" yet Gillon says LHO was the lone shooter. The book is filled with errors. On page 168, footnote 6 is reference to a Jack Valenti article about the transition of power that happened with the shots in Dealey Plaza, BUT the article is dated the day BEFORE the assassination! He made the same error in a previous book! Gillon has LHO slashing his "wrists" in the Soviet Union (p.9) but only his left wrist was cut. Gillon mentions LHO's cab ride, in attempting to flee Dealey Plaza (p.18) but makes no mention of LHO offering the cab to a little old lady. Marina Oswald is named "Maria" twice on the same page (p.63). Chapter 17 has 11 footnotes, but only 10 are listed. Chapter 18 has 10 footnotes, but 11 are listed. Harry Hines Blvd is mistakenly named "Henry Hines Blvd" (p.127). A "Timeline of Oswald's Final Hours" goes back years (to the late 1950's), not hours. A photo labelled "JFK motorcade" (p.149) is actually from a re-creation several days later. A photo labelled "sniper's nest" (p.151) is actually of a different stack of boxes on the TSBD 6th floor. A document labelled "JFK autopsy report" (p.157) is actually a medical report on Gov. Connally. There are many more factual errors throughout the book. Very disappointing book by a history professor and "Scholar-in-Residence" and consultant to the History Channel. The JFK assassination deserves historically accurate books. Entertaining but the audiobook version is remarkably silly By Mitchell Enjoyed the minute to minute account of Lee Harvey Oswald's time and actions immediately after the event (despite the politically-correct, textbook commentary about how Oswald acted alone). The audiobook version loses a star (or two or three) based on the silly narration...whether it's Oswald himself or his Russian wife, or the lead detective, or Jackie Kennedy, or J. Edgar Hoover, the narrator feels compelled to give his absurd impersonations of the speakers...this works the first couple times doing Oswald but after awhile they all sound like the same character...I literally laughed out loud on the plane with the male narrator impersonating a Russian woman speaking broken English. SILLY. PLEASE RE-RECORD and just read the prose without the half-witted impersonations. 8 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Worth a Look!
