This is not Elite material for me By Ashley Mason 1st up I like writing good reviews, I vary rarely write a bad one unless I feel really strongly about it. Being a huge Elite fan when it first came out many years ago I am now a Premium Beta Tester for the game (I didn't have time for the Alpha test) and am looking forward to the full release. On hearing about the books I immediately ordered them when they became available. So Far I finished one which was a decent read, full of Elite references and worth the $6.99 for kindle. Then I dug into this one. Wow this is not Elite, this is a story set in space with a couple of references at best. Now all would be forgiven if it was a good story but sadly I didn't get it. *** Spoilers ahead *** - There are three main characters and a supporting character in a button computer. The button computer was by far the most entertaining and readable. The fugitives are
nonsensical (which is admittedly part of the plot line, but you just don't care about them or get any depth) and a bounty hunter who is completely emotionless, again part of the plot, but makes it hard to care about this character either. The fugitives basically blow stuff up, have sex all the time and kill people and things. Now if this were a different kind of book with graphic details aimed at an adult audience with erotic details then OK, but its not. Writing that the characters are again getting frisky and have sex is not erotic or titillating and it comes off for me as page filling and pointless and jarring. Its almost like the author wanted to write something sexy but then adjusted the writing to make it very clinical so as not to offend, yet has the characters killing people and things without thought as well. Either way in my opinion this story didn't merit a full book, and definitely not a title related to Elite. The premise of the story is interesting and could possibly have made a good short story, in fact it reminded me of some of the more 'out there' 2000AD comic book stories back in the day around mega city one where the latest fad was to be ugly or grotesque. Those were fun, read quickly and entertaining. I suggest you steer clear of this one, I am sure some folks will buy it anyway because of the Elite tie in despite this review. I probably would, fair warning, and if you enjoy it then maybe I just didn't get it. Now why can't someone just pick up where the Dark Wheel left off, that was just getting interesting! 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I have no idea what this book was about. ... By Amazon Customer I have no idea what this book was about. All I could seem to figure out was that it had to do with the couple doing drugs, having sex, listening to music while blowing ships up. I read the other Elite:Dangerous books and that is why I bought this one. I just could not get into this book and took a break to see if I could muscle through it. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Excellently written!!! By Mark P Hill Sci fi novels are not usually my preference but being an Elite fan for the past 30 years, I thought I'd try Nemorensis out. Simon's writing style is excellent, with the correct balance of humour, suspense, violence and simultaneously providing the reader with a deep understanding of the personalities and thought processes of each character.
