Most helpful customer reviews 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Stephen King proves without a doubt to be an amazing storyteller and The Dark Tower books is his best work By Jack D. Lowry I am going to write this as I see it sum up the four book set book by book until I have written it all up for the whole four book set. The Dark Tower Set is actually eight books long while others see it as seven, but if you check King's website it's actually eight books long. But back to book one called The Gunslinger the story starts off fairly easy and a fast read you got your hero Roland verses Walter the villian, as the story goes along we learn more about Roland and how he is consume to find this Tower at all cost no matter what. The villian Walter test the hero mutiple times but like any good story the hero must keep on going must achieve that goal. But before the final battle in the first book Walter has a message for Roland about his journey and people he shall meet. Now the second book is called The Drawing of the Three, this is where Roland somehow enters our world and meets two peole but in essense three people because this person has mutiple personalities. It is set in New York and Roland and his crew journey along trying to figure out why they are here in this world and time 70's and 80's, somethings they figure out as they go along. The 3rd book is called The Waste Lands and starts off with them and a huge bear but not a regular bear they find out but a "cyborg", as they see this they realize and see certain beams which Roland assumes will lead them to his goal The Dark Tower. Now Roland and his three friends enter another world called Lud, where they meet a computer based train named Blaine who offers them a trade offin the form of riddles, if they agree to the trade he help them get closer to the Dark Tower if they fail the trade then the train will send them all to their death. As for the fourth book is called Wizard and Glass which can be sum up as western movie sterotypes meets Wizard of Oz, what I mean by that is Roland and his fellow boys all have guns and going along their journey piece by piece while walking into bars getting infomation to use to their advantage. But as the story progress our hero falls in love with a lady of the town but at what cost does falling in love with this woman cost a man like Roland and do we find out what that cost is before the final battle. As the story nears the end of the book which is 672 pages long, Roland is confronted by a past memory which he must deal with or he won't continue on his journey. But as for the others they notice the similarties between the story of the Wizard of Oz and what's happening to them and Roland their leader, so they travel along the path of the beams. Then finally reach a place where they don't know if they are dreaming or if it's real, but I will not spoil the ending to Wizard and Glass you'll have to buy the whole set to see what I mean by an amazing start to a wonderful, suspenseful, twisted, magical, and intense storytelling of a book set.
