Great Getting Started Text By Laura Summers The Whole School Library Handbook is a great find for new school librarians or graduate students who would like an introductory overview to the school library profession. The editors have compiled previously published articles in a handy, easy-to-read reference. I always tell my graduate students that this book is a keeper; a resource that they can refer back to in a time of need as they are developing collections, managing their school libraries, locating funding, promoting their library programs, or advocating for their positions as instructional leaders. The Handbook also provides a history of school libraries and a list of outstanding leaders in the field of school librarianship which deepens the students' understanding of how influential their roles as school librarians can be. This book is a great launching pad for discussions and directing students to additional resources. 3 of 4 people found the following review helpful.
