The Payroll and Benefits Specialist will prepare employee payroll, absence reporting, oversee benefits, prepare employment agreements and contracts. Correspond, interact and provide support to all employees concerning their compensation and benefits. __________________________________________________________________ Location:

Schedule: 260 Days/.5 FTE

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree with a major in business or accounting; OR any combination equivalent to sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed in the position description. EXPERIENCE:  Experience in payroll accounting or HR experience preferred.  Business experience in school districts or public entities desirable. GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:  Business experience in school districts or public entities desirable  High level of computer proficiency required  Proficient data entry skills  Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines  Ability to work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, organize time, set priorities, work independently with minimal supervision and ability to maintain confidentiality

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  Prepares payroll including personnel action form, withholding, social security and other tax deposits  Process vendor payments associated with each month’s payroll  Compile and file quarterly reports, Form 941, unemployment and Labor and Industries  Process wage garnishments, COBRA notifications and payment processing  Process and calculate all contract adjustments and changes in salaries, supplemental payments, resignations, retirement eligibility and deductions  Enter education and experience and assist with placement on state allocation schedule  Enter continuing education clock hours into Skyward  Issue employment contracts, including extra-curricular  Issue Reasonable Assurance forms notification of employment to all classified employees  Prepare and verify W-2 forms  Prepares annual accounting of accumulated sick leave and vacation leave for each employee  Verifies payroll to budget and assists in budget development  Updates S-275 report  Complete OSHA form 300 annually  Complete SIRS report annually  Orient new employees to benefits and wages  Maintains current knowledge of bargaining agreements and contracts, payroll related laws and regulations, technical standards and district personnel and payroll policies and practices and researchers, analyzes, and interprets them as needed to determine appropriate actions and to explain them to staff  Assist with Workers Compensation and Unemployment  Send out availability notice for 403(b) and 457 plans annually  Coordinate Section 125 open enrollment and process enrollment forms  Coordinate and process open enrollment for medical/dental insurance  Coordinate VEBA plan for all employees groups  Oversee employee benefits  Knowledge of Department of Retirement requirements and reports  Administration of FMLA documents  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and outside agency personnel  Participate in in-service and related professional growth activities, as assigned and appropriate  Other duties as assigned Methow Valley School District does not discriminate in any programs or activities on the basis of sex, race, creed, religion, color, national origin, age, veteran or military status, sexual orientation, gender expression or identity, disability, or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups.
