Sunday July 13th will see Fr Kevin Doran, a native of Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin succeed Bishop Christopher Jones, as Bishop of Elphin. Ordination ceremony at the Cathedral at 5.30 pm. Such has been the desire of people from every parish in the diocese to attend the historic event that the main body of the cathedral has had to be reserved for people with tickets only. There will also be an opportunity for people to participate in the celebration by going to Summerhill College where the Ordination will be relayed on a large screen and communion will be brought from the Cathedral. Along with Fr Doran’s family and friends over 150 priests 30 Bishops and representatives from various Christian communities will also be present. These will be joined by over 500 hundred representatives from parishes throughout the diocese and from various diocesan organisations. The ceremony will be broadcast live on Ocean FM and Shannonside Northern Sound. The entire ceremony will also be streamed on the internet and can be viewed live or downloaded from www.elphindiocese.ie CALTRA PARTICIPATION IN BISHOP’S ORDINATION : All parishes in the diocese are having a Holy Hour in preparation and sending representatives to Sligo. The Holy Hour will be on Thursday July at 8.00 -9.00 pm. A small amount of preparation needs to be done for the Holy Hour as the diocese has sent on suggestions of Readings, Prayers, Hymns – To organise that part we will meet in Parish House Mon. 7th July at 7.30 pm for a SHORT meeting open to all - at that gathering the names of those going to Sligo will be drawn from a hat. FIRST NATIONAL DAY OF FASTING & PRAYER FOR LIFE : Wednesday, 30th July 2014 - one year to the day that Abortion was legally signed into law in Ireland Prayer cards are available on request for parishes nationwide Prayer: Mary, we pray today for all mothers who are afraid to be mothers. We pray for those who feel threatened and overwhelmed by their pregnancy. Intercede for them, that God may give them the grace to say yes and the courage to go on. May they have the grace to reject the false solution of abortion. May they say with you, "Be it done unto me according to your word." May they experience the help of Christian people, and know the peace that comes from God. Amen. “A great prayer for life is urgently needed, a prayer which will rise up throughout the world. Through special initiatives and in daily prayer, may an impassioned plea rise to God, the Creator and lover of life, from every Christian community, from every group and association, from every family and from the heart of every believer.” Words of Pope John Paul II
