WELCOME TO COMPASS! Refer to this document for step-by-step instructions for doing the following on Compass: ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

Accessing Compass on the Internet web browser. Navigating your Compass Homepage including Menus and Functions. Your child's profile, including attendance, adding absence notes and viewing upcoming school events. Booking Parent Teacher Interviews. Viewing your child’s school reports. Viewing all alerts and news items sent from the school and links to the school newsletter and other notes. Downloading the Compass Smartphone App. Adding an absence note using the Compass Smartphone App.

Accessing the Compass Website Using An Internet Browser To access our school login page, visit https://smpsmeadowbank-nsw.compass.education/

Accessing the Compass Website Using An Internet Browser If you are having trouble with this Compass link, you can go to http://schools.compass.edu.au and search for and find our school directly.

To log in you will require your unique family username and password. These details will be provided to you by the school in a letter sent home in a sealed envelope. Upon first login, you will be required to change your password and confirm your email address and mobile phone number. These details may be used by the school for SMS, password recovery and email communication throughout the year. If you have lost your details or forgotten your password, you can recover your details by clicking the 'Can't access your account?' link on the front page.

Once you have successfully logged in, you will be taken to your personal Compass Homepage. Your Homepage will look similar to this sample page. The home screen provides you with relevant alerts and news, as well as quick access to your child’s profile.

Overview of the Homepage Main Menu Allows you to access other Compass and school resources. The options available here may vary based on your school's use of Compass. More information on the icons is provided in the next section of these help notes.

Tools The Tools Menu (cog icon) allows you to update your contact details and change your password.

Your Child/ren This section provides you with a quick summary of available options regarding your child/ren. To access more information click on the relevant quick link or select 'Profile' to access details information about your child. Options here may include: ● ● ● ● ●

- Your child/ren's profile page - Email functionality - Attendance pages customised for your child/ren - School reports for your child - Parent/Teacher Conference bookings

The links available for you in this section depends on the functions that are in use by your school at this time. Functions may change throughout the year as the school community becomes more familiar with the use of Compass.

News Recent school news items and information relevant to parents. This may include newsletters, details of upcoming events and much more. You will be notified instantly of these news items via a pop up notification on your mobile device if you have downloaded the Compass App and have your Notification Settings turned ON.

Menus and Functions NOTE: Your school may not currently have all of these functions and your page might look slightly different to this example. When clicking along the options on the Menu bar (see image below), you will notice a variety of functions available for you to select.

The Home icon will take you back to the Home page. The Calendar icon will take you to the school calendar, where you will be able to see the schedules of your child/ren, as well as any school events or activities that have been entered to the calendar. The Pencil icon will bring up the Teaching and Learning menu, from which you can access Learning Tasks (not available yet) and School Resources. The Grid icon will bring up the Organisation menu, from which you can access Events, Course Confirmations/Payments (not available yet), and the Job System. The Two People icon will bring up the Community menu, from which you can access Parent/Teacher Conferences and School Documentation. The Star icon will bring up the Favourites menu, where any websites that the school has added will be linked.

To the right of the screen, your name will display, with the Cog icon, which will bring up the Tools menu, from which you can access your Payments (not available yet), your Files, reset your password, update your contact details, and log out. Clicking on your name will take you to your profile page.

Your Child’s Profile

You can view your child’s profile by clicking on their profile link on your home page. From here you can also add an attendance note, view your child’s semester reports and book parent teacher interviews.

Adding an Absence Note If your child has any unapproved absences or late arrivals, you will receive an alert on your Compass home page letting you know this, and allowing you to add a Note or Approval. Clicking on this notification will take you to the Unexplained tab for that child's attendance, where you can choose to add a Note or Approval for one or more absences. To add a note or approval, select one or more of the absences listed, then select the 'Explain with Note/Approval' button.

Please note that you cannot edit your notes or approvals after they've been created. If you do need to make any amendments please contact your school, as they can do this for you.

Viewing Your Child’s Reports From the home screen, click on the ‘View Academic Reports’ item or navigate to the student profile and click the ‘Reports’ tab. A list of Academic Reports will be displayed. Click the report title to download the PDF onto any device.

Viewing Upcoming Events for your Child Displays any events that your child/ren are attendees for, for example. sports events or excursions.

At this stage, you will not be able to give online permission for an event or pay for it (if it is an event requiring payment) using your Compass Account. The school will notify you when this option becomes available. You will soon have access to re-print the permission note for an event if you have misplaced the one sent home with your child from school.

Parent/Teacher Interview Bookings

By selecting a child, you can then view the teachers you can book in with, and select a time slot from the drop-down menu.

The School Calendar From the School Calendar you can view details of upcoming events, your child's timetable, and other relevant school-wide activities your school has included on the calendar, such as School Council Meetings, School Community events, Exams, Student Leadership events/meetings and more.

Alerts and News Items Alerts Alerts are custom notifications specific to you or your child for items that require your action or attention. These may include excursion notifications, ordering options for school photos, absence notifications, surveys, student report availability and more. ● ● ● ● ● ●

Outstanding absences or late arrivals that require a note or approval Course Confirmations or payments that need processing Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences that are available for booking Excursions or Events that require consent and/or payment School photos that are available for purchase Semester Reports or Progress Reports that are available to download.

News Items Recent school news items and information relevant to parents can also be found on your Compass home page. This may include newsletters, details of upcoming events and much more.

The Compass App Compass is also accessible by downloading and using the Compass iOS or Android app. Step 1: Locate and click on the App store. Type into search ‘Compass School Manager.’ Step 2: Click on ‘GET’ and then ‘INSTALL.’ Enter your Apple ID and Apple password. NOTE: The Compass app is a free app.

Step 3: The app will download and click on ‘open.’ Click on ‘Allow’ notifications (this is how we will send you alerts and news items).

NOTE: Android users will need to allow notifications through their phone settings.

The Compass App Step 4: Open the App and click into the ‘Tap here’ cell and begin to type St Michael’s.

Step 5: When you see the list of options, click on ‘St Michael’s Catholic Primary Meadowbank.’

Step 6: Log into the App using your Compass username and password.

NOTE: If this is your first time logging on you will be prompted to update your details and change your password.

The Compass App Once downloaded, the app will firstly prompt you to enter your login details to gain access. The app view of Compass will look slightly different to a computer desktop view, however, if you wish to see the desktop view, click the menu and select ‘Open in Browser.’

Adding an Absence Note on the Compass App Adding an Absence Note for your child on the Compass App is slightly different to using the Compass webpage. Here are some ‘how to’ steps to guide you through this process. 1

1. Open the Compass app homepage and click on your child’s picture.

2. Then click on the Approvals tab along the top of the screen. Click here! 3. In the Approvals tab click on the blue plus button.

5 Choose the correct start and end date for the absence and change the time to 9am-3:20pm

4. Click on ‘reason’ then select an appropriate reason for the absence.

5. Choose the date for the absence and change the time to 9am-3:20pm. Click on add approval. Then click here! Your child’s absence note will appear in their approvals tab on the Compass app, and in your child’s attendance tab on the Compass webpage.

Troubleshooting If you have an urgent Compass problem, please contact the school office and they will forward your concern to a member of the Compass team. Compass also has some articles to help with problems that you may come across as a part of their ‘Knowledge Base’ function.
