Principal’s Message The focus for the week of May 8 -12 is STAAR! It is Game Time, and I am truly excited because I know our students will excel!!!We have worked extremely hard all year, and this is one of the most IMPORTANT weeks as we prepare to make history with our SUCCESS!!!!! Decker Pride. 6th and 7 th grade students will take their Math and Reading assessments on May 8th and May 9 th. On these same dates 8th grade will be retesting Math and Reading. 8th grade students will take their Science and Social Studies assessments on May 10th and May 11th. Our teachers are continuing to push students with high academic standards to best prepare them for success as they move forward to the next grade level. Jon Bailey, Principal

APD STAR CART The City of Austin Police Department (APD) Police Activities League (PAL) conducts underage drinking prevention/anti-DWI training to teenagers throughout the city. The STAR CART Program is an interactive program offered to permit and driving aged teenagers. ATTENDANCE Attendance is extremely important to ensure your student makes the appropriate gains and success in school. Please make sure your student is on time to school and present on a regular basis. If your student must be out, please call Ms. Quiroz, our attendance specialist; at 278-4630 to report your student’s absence, you will also need to send a note with your student when he/she returns to school to have documentation for an excused absence. ATTENDANCE MATTERS!

PTA: Parent Teacher Association The PTA needs you! PTA Membership Dues: $5 Membership forms and Dues can be picked up and paid in the front office. PTA meets on the first Monday of each month in the DMS Library from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM. PTA partners with Communities in Schools to provide information for parents. Topics will include Academic Services provided for students, How to Begin to Prepare for College Admittance, Healthy Choices, Family Game Nights and more. Please plan to attend our PTA meetings.
