Who is Oxford Friends of the Earth? One of around 200 local Friends of the Earth groups across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, we’re a voluntary group of local residents working to promote a healthy and sustainable environment. We meet regularly to discuss action on a range of environmental issues, to share concerns and celebrate progress.
What does the group do?
Keep ourselves informed with discussions at our meetings and talks from invited speakers on current environmental activities, and through our monthly bulletin Raise awareness of key environmental issues at public meetings and events that we organise, via our stalls at local festivals and events, and through social, print and broadcast media Raise funds for our activities through raffles and other events Decide which issues to focus on and collaborate with our supporters and other groups/individuals to run campaigns and events. Our current focus is on air pollution, climate action and protecting bees/nature.
What can I do? There’s a whole range of ways you can get involved; from helping on stalls to organising high profile activities, contributing to social media, giving media interviews or writing letters to your MP and councillors. Don’t worry if you feel that you don’t know enough – joining us can be a learning experience and a chance to meet people with diverse backgrounds.
