The Stanislaus National Forest is conducting outreach for a Supervisory Natural Resources Specialist, GS-‐401-‐11. This position is located on the Mi-‐Wok Ranger District, in Mi-‐Wuk Village, California. This is a permanent full-‐time position. Major Duties: This position serves as a primary assistant to the District Ranger and is a member of the District Leadership Team. The Resource Management Program Lead supervisor’s a variety of scientific and technical positions on the district. This person serves as a member of the Forest Resource Management Team; represents the District in development of the Forest program of work, budget development and allocation process, and program integration. Develops, organizes and implements functional long-‐range and short-‐range actions plans. Performs program management reviews and conducts inspections for compliance with policies, plans, regulations, work planning and contracts, and responsible for program budget planning and management. Looking for an individual that can provide leadership in managing the ecosystem based resource program. ABOUT THE LOCATION: General info: The Forest Supervisor’s Office is located in Sonora, California about 45 miles east of Modesto. The towns and cities of Merced, Stockton, Sacramento and San Francisco are located approximately 1 to 2 hours away. Sonora is a town reminiscent of the gold rush era. Considered a “Gateway to Yosemite National Park”, Sonora is a full service community with one hospital, several school districts and Columbia Community College nearby (http://www.sonoraca.com/home.htm). The area encompassing Sonora and outlying areas contains a population of approximately 50,000 people. Sonora is the county seat for Tuolumne County http://www.tuolumnecounty.ca.gov/. The Mi-‐Wok Ranger District Office is located in the community of Mi Wuk Village, CA, approximately 15 miles northeast of Sonora, CA, the nearest full service community with a population of approximately 25,000. Other nearby limited service communities includes Sugar Pine, Sierra Village, Twain Harte, Long Barn, Soulsbyville, Pinecrest and Mono Village. The towns and cities of Merced, Modesto, Stockton, Sacramento, and San Francisco are approximately a 2 hour drive away. Sonora is considered the “gateway to Yosemite National Park.” Housing opportunities are variable. The nearest elementary school is in Twain Harte, approximately 4 miles from Mi Wuk Village and the nearest High School is in Sonora. There are several other elementary schools in the surrounding communities and the actual location of the residence determines which one child attends. Bus Services are available for all schools. Private schools are also available. There is also a community college in the town of Columbia, approximately 40 miles from Mi Wuk Village. Dodge Ridge, Bear Valley and Badger Pass ski areas offer a variety of winter activities. Kayaking, river rafting, fishing, swimming, hiking and camping are very popular. Weather is mild in the lower elevations with occasional winter snow. Summer temperatures are often over 100 degrees during the day; however, higher elevations with cooler temperatures are easily accessed.
