Assessment of Student Learning Department of Theatre BFA Program Outcomes Mission The UMD Department of Theatre prepares students for careers in theatre and related fields through academic, artistic and production opportunities; serves as a campus and community cultural center; and provides regional support for the performing arts. Complemented by a Liberal Education Program that provides exposure to a range of ideas and disciplines, earning a BFA in Theatre, our students will: • Interpret the function of theatre as an expression of human culture at key moments in history. • Analyze and interpret dramatic texts and/or imagery. • Effectively prepare and execute work for production. • Organize and Implement discipline specific techniques in a creative process. • Effectively cooperate with others in the various collaborative processes of theatre making. • Demonstrate and support commitment to ongoing artistic improvement. • Design personal promotional materials that highlight individual strengths. • Demonstrate communication skills to effectively share the essence of a theatrical work with others. • Actively engage collegiate, local, and regional communities through theatrical projects that focus on our common humanity and current issues.
