PERIYAR MANIAMMAI UNIVERSITY located in Vallam, Thanjavur has dedicated its service towards the upliftment of surrounding rural people and empowering women from villages with the ideologies of Thanthai Periyar, the great Social Reformer and nurtured by Dr.K.Veeramani, Esteemed Chancellor of our University. Our novel schemes like Periyar PURA have been appreciated nationwide. This university offers technical education and encouragement to research activities in various fields towards the overall societal interest. It has been maintaining a greenish environment and a solid infrastructure. In 2013 the university has celebrated the Silver Jubilee year. As a part of the celebration mega events like International Conference on Disaster Management and Mitigation, Aerospace festival, etc.., were arranged. The Aerospace festival conducted by the university has brought several Indian space scientists and showcased various models of rockets, missiles and satellites, etc..,. which were displayed by the concerned government sectors like HAL, NAL, Brahmos, th DRDO, ADA, ISRO, LPSC, CVRDE, etc.., The 14 Annual Convention of ISTE, Student Chapter was organised in the campus of the university. Students from various states of India participated. Adding another golden feather in the crown of the University is the Open House 2016 which is meant to enlighten the minds of Science and Technology students.

The sixth open house 2016 is based on E - Energy Environment & Empowerment. It is a chance for budding technicians, technocrats and students of various schools and colleges from nook and corners of India to participate in various competitions and events are to be held in our PMU campus, in which participants can secure prizes worth Rs.1,00,000 and more. It will be a mega event with numerous competitions to let the students participate to showcase their skills in every aspect. Every year we entertain overwhelming response from the upcoming scientists. Individual overall trophy will be given to each one of the best Schools, Arts & Science, Polytechnic & Engineering colleges.
