experienced some major events in my life that are my memories and part of your history. One grandson and a granddaughter were born. I baptized my grandson here. Both of my parents and my wife died. We have celebrated twenty-five weddings together and 41 baptisms. We shared a couple of Euriskons and some Lenten services that we shared in meditation together as well as the joint services that we shared with our sister churches. There were many funeral services where we celebrated the lives of our loved ones. We shared in several special events together, some very successful and others, oh well we tried. On July 1st I will begin a new season in my life. I will be serving as Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church in Coram. That is my future. I will be taking some things from this season with me into my future not the least of which is Donna. The memories that I have collected here will become the experience that I have that will be useful in the new season.

Dear Brother or Sister in Christ,

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NRSV) There is a time to say hello and a time to say good-by and my time has come to say good-by to the people called United Methodists in Commack. It seems that the past nine years has flown by. It seems like yesterday that I began my ministry among you and now it is ending. As we move through the seasons of our lives, we leave events of our lives behind us and take things with us. The pieces of me that I leave behind become a part of your history and memories to me. The pieces that I take with me become a part of my future and memories to you. Your future is yet to be written, that is the next season. Since I have been among you, I have

wonderful season that you have given me. If you treat Pastor Rich half as well as you have treated me, he will have a great season with you. The future is in your hands as it has always been. I am leaving here with some great memories and some sadness. Change is always scary and things are changing, but I know that God never gives us anything that we can’t handle. As you begin your new season, my prayer for you is that you will always know and understand that God is in charge and that Jesus is your shepherd. As a church and in your personal lives always remember that and you cannot fail. In Christ’s love, Dick

Kristin Scully and Peter Titolo will be married here on June 9th at 10:30 in the morning. Please join with them and their families as they celebrate their wedding!

From the Church office... After nine years of ministering to our church, Pastor Mills is beginning another chapter in his life.

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN... Father’s Day is June 17th and the UMW is again sponsoring the Father’s Day Booklet. Please have your names in to Cyndi Pinkham, Mel Walker or Kathy Muller by June 3rd or ASAP after that date. All proceeds go into our mission projects.

Come celebrate with us at a dinner gathering as we honor him and wish him well in his future endeavors on June 16, 2007 at 6:30 pm in Fellowship Hall. We will be having a Pot Luck Supper and we are asking for donations, in lieu of gifts, of $15.00 per person to be put towards a charity of his choice.

Happy Father’s Day to all the special men in our lives, with love and God’s Blessings from the United Methodist Women.

We hope to see you there for a wonderful night of fellowship!

pasta, cereal, juice, canned fruit, canned vegetables and other non-perishables. A committee member will always available to pick up perishables (milk, bread, fresh fruit or vegetables), just call me at 4862047. Thanks to your generosity these children will not go hungry this summer. Thanks to your generosity these children will know that they are not forgotten.

Bring your items to the office and receive a tax-deductible donation acknowledgement for your tax records. If you have any questions, please call the church office.

We do not always know whom to thank for keeping our food box supplied, but we keep you in our prayers and are sure that Our Lord knows who is feeding and caring for his children. And to all my guardian angels, who respond to needs before I even ask, I pass on the thanks of those you've helped.

A great big thank you to our peanut butter gang. Saturday, May 5 was another successful day for our regulars, scouts and high school helpers. We were able to make and deliver 1000 sandwiches this month.

"As I have loved you, so you must love one another. If you have love for one another then everyone will know that you are my disciples."John13: 34b-35

That’s 1000 people fed!!! It is not only the people who are able to spread peanut butter that we have to thank; but also those who contribute peanut butter, jelly, bread, baggies, boxes, and cash that make this ministry possible. Remember us during the summer months. Many agencies that contribute sandwiches are closed during the summer and Joe always counts on us to fill the void. Contributions usually decline during the summer so please make an extra effort to donate peanut butter and jelly. Join us on the first Saturday of each month at 8:30AM.

A container is in the back of the sanctuary for any spare change that you have. This money will be used to buy school shoes for needy children when they go back to school in September. Children with shoes that don't fit have a hard time concentrating because their feet hurt. Others feel uncomfortable starting school with shoes falling apart on their feet and a little confidence and pride helps them start the year right. This is not in place of our annual school supply drive, but an additional step in helping these children stay in school so they can use education as a stepping stone to a better life.

Summer is upon us and for many that means vacations and fun. But to some children, no school means no breakfast and or no lunch. HUNGER DOES NOT TAKE A VACATION AND NO CHILD SHOULD GO HUNGRY. Please remember our food box this summer as we try to supplement the loss of school lunches. We are always looking for tuna, peanut butter, jelly, rice, beans,

Our Peanut Butter Gang, School Supply Drive, Spare Change Jar, Food Drives and many other outreach programs were initiated because of Pastor Mills influence. We thank him for his guidance and hope to continue “Our Helping Hands” in his honor. 3

Conference staff have planned a terrific Youth Celebration at the arena at Hofstra University as part of Annual Conference. Festivities begin at 11AM and include Krystal Meyers, Christian teen rock vocalist, in concert. See her web site: www.krystalmeyers.com/

Please inform us of any need in the congregation or the community where we may be of assistance. We can only help if you keep us informed. Contact the office or a committee member and we will do our best to respond. We wish you all a happy and blessed summer.

Youth festivities begin at 11:00 AM in the arena with a huge mission celebration with special emphasis on the Nothing But Nets project. Lunch is free! If you are interested in attending or chaperoning (chaperones are needed – Deb will be out of town on a Girl Scout 95th Anniversary Trip that weekend), please call Jen (269-3954) or Deb (5435522).

Matching Gifts will quadruple our NothingButNets Contributions As announced in the April Messenger, our Sunday School Families is participating in the Nothing But Nets initiative. Deb Hervey shared with the children during the Youth Story on April 30th that a $10 donation from each of their families can protect a family in a malaria-infested country for up to four years by providing them with an insecticide treated bed net.

Confirmands with Bishop Park at the Rally on May 19th

At the Bishop’s Rally, the confirmands learned that the NBA, the Bill Gates Foundation and the Bishop’s Fund are all providing matching gifts. That means that for every $10 we at Commack UMC contribute, $40 will be given to the Nothing But Nets project so instead of helping just one family, we will be able to help four families!!!

Confirmands Attend Rally on May 19th Maggie Hervey, Andi Kessler and Alec Litrel traveled to White Plains to join approximately 200 youth from around the conference at the annual Bishop’s Confirmation Rally. The day included meeting the Bishop Jeremiah Park, listening to his inspirational speech as well as participating in Youth Games, worshiping with a praise band and seeing the Skit Guys. The Skit Guys! Tommy Woodard and Eddie James are The Skit Guys. They have been best friends since high school, and have been communicating God’s Word and impacting lives through comedy, drama, and teaching for over 15 years.

Anyone interested in joining the Sunday School in making a donation can place it in the offering plate on 6/3. Our gifts will be presented to the Bishop during annual conference on June 9th. Driver/chaperone needed for Youth Day at Annual Conference Bishop Jeremiah Park and the New York 4

Commack UMC Welcomes Three Newest Members

They recently released two new books through Zondervan called, Instant Skits and Skits That Teach. They have also produced other plays, skits, and videos covering a wide variety of topics that are available to download through their website. All three confirmands really enjoyed seeing them and recommend other youth visit their website to catch some cool messages that help teach us how to live as Christians while making us laugh at the same time!

On Sunday, May 20th, the confirmation class of 2007 made or renewed their Baptismal vows and became full members of Commack United Methodist Church. Maggie Hervey, Andi Kessler and Alec Litrel are our newest members. As part of the Confirmation Ceremony, Alec Litrel was also baptized. All three wrote their own Statements of Faith which were shared with all in Sunday’s bulletin and which also appear later in this issue. The UMW hosted a coffee hour reception in the specially decorated Fellowship Hall following the service.

Vacation Bible School will Lift Off on June 24th! Vacation Bible School will be held Sunday June 24th thru Thursday, June 28th, from 6:30 to 8:30PM. Everyone from 3 to 103 is invited to come lift off and soar to new heights with God! During High Fly Bible Time, our Sky Scouts will step into dramatic Bible scenes and meet ordinary people–an old man, an abandoned brother, a quiet sister, a short tax collector, and a grieving fisherman–who have developed special relationships with God and Jesus. What the children experience will connect directly with the daily Flight Plans so they, too, can soar to new heights with God.

On Sunday evening, Fellowship Hall was transformed to “Party Central” where the confirmands danced the night away with music provided by EJ the DJ. In addition to gifts, friends brought nonperishable food for our Food Pantry bin or made a donation towards Care and Share which is the Hauppauge Middle School’s fund for helping families in need in the Hauppauge School district. Special thanks to Nancy Gamby for making our wonderful balloon arches, and to Jen Malgraf, Maureen Kessler and the Kessler family, the Litrel family, and Sammie Lou Green (Deb Hervey’s
