A MISSION MOMENT... The Methodist Church in India (MCI) has functioned in the background of the contemporary, local, Indian environment at all times. India’s social, economic and political arenas have been a great challenge to the mission work. Being a third-generation Methodist pastor, I have received, in abundance, the uplifting and molding influence of the MCI. There is now a whole new generation of Methodists who have been born into the Methodist family and consider it a thing of pride and honor. The workforce of the MCI through the length and breadth of India totals approximately 648,000. The achievement of the past 150 years lights up our paths and empowers us to reach many more historic milestones. INTERNATIONAL DINNER We held another successful International Dinner on February 10, thanks to the help from so many people. Our buffet table was laden with a variety of heritage and family favorite dishes and enjoyed by all. The displays included an absolutely stunning exhibit of Korean screens, fabrics, flags, ancient mask replicas and other artifacts, Ginny had her Puerto Rico posters available, John displayed his boat collection. Kathy exhibited 16 Storybook Dolls hand made by the LI Cloth Dollinks. Photos of past International Dinners were also on display.
Dolly Walker will lead the program “Fear Not, Pray Earnestly; A Time for Soul Searching” on Thursday, March 8th at 7:30 pm in the church parlor. Ann Aupperle will be the evening’s hostess. All women are invited to attend. We will also highlight the mission project of collecting supplies for our military (listing in the January Messenger). MORE DATES TO REMEMBER: Tuesday, March13: Fair Workshop starting meeting from 10-1pm in the education building.
Our entertainment included a medley of songs by CUMC choir with audience participation, Korean song by LIKUMC women in their national dress, and a 2
soulful Korean Dance by Mrs. Yu Young Chow commemorating the past Japanese invasion of Korea. A terrific piano piece “A NY State of Mind” was performed by Mark Prasad. John and Kathy sang a duet “Are You Lonely Tonight”, a parody, as a tribute to their fellow senior citizens.
United States will begin in March 2007. See below for the new “spring forward, fall back” dates for the next few years. Every spring we move our clocks one hour ahead and “lose” an hour during the night and each fall we move our clocks back one hour and “gain” an extra hour. But Daylight Saving Time (and not Daylight Savings Time with an “s”) wasn’t just created to confuse our schedules.
We thank all who assisted with the serving and cleanup and those ladies who helped to set the tables. This was another joyful evening of fellowship attended by 98 people from CUMC and LIKUMC.
The phrase “Spring Forward, fall back” helps people remember how Daylight Saving Time affects their clocks. At 2 am on the second Sunday in March, we set our clocks forward one hour ahead of standard time (“spring forward”). We “fall back” at 2 am on the first Sunday in November by setting our clock back one hour and thus returning to standard time.
MARCH BIRTHDAYS:
Today is your day to celebrate Your day to be the star So let the ones you love all cheer And say how special you are. A year of fun and happiness Is our birthday wish for you. You are someone special And your birthday should be too!
The change to Daylight Saving Time allows us to use less energy in lighting our homes by taking advantage of the longer and later daylight hours.

Daylight Saving Time was instituted in the United States during World War I in order to save energy for war production by taking advantage of the later hours of daylight between April and October. During World War II the federal government again required the states to observe the time change. Between the wars and after World War II, states and communities chose whether or not to observe Daylight Saving Time. In 1966, Congress passed the Uniform Time Act which standardized the length of Daylight Saving Time.

Reservations), Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa have chosen not to observe Daylight Saving Time. This choice does make sense for the areas closer to the equator because the days are more consistent in length throughout the year.
cheering on the Long Island Ducks Baseball Team. As we have arranged in the past, our seats will be in the preferred Section 13. The tickets are on order and sales will begin shortly. Again, we have reserved enough tickets for you to invite your friends to join our church family that night!
Other parts of the world observe Daylight Saving Time as well. While European nations have been taking advantage of the time change for decades, in 1996 the European Union (EU) standardized an EU-wide European Summer Time. This EU Version of Daylight Saving Time runs from the last Sunday in March through the last Sunday in October.
Plans are still in the formative stage for the Progressive Dinner, which is a great night. Be thinking if you would care to host a course, but by all means, plan to come and enjoy the evening. Details will be available shortly. There are other events in the planning stages which will be announced later on. Meanwhile, get out a bright crayon and put a circle around July 25 and August 2!!
In the southern atmosphere where summer comes in December, Daylight Saving Time is observed from October to March. Equatorial and tropical countries (lower latitude) don’t observe Daylight saving Time since the daylight hours are similar during every season, so there’s no advantage to moving clocks forward during the summer.
And remember, if you have an idea for a Happening and would care to join the committee to bring it to fruition, let us know. The Committee
HAPPENING COMMITTEE There are two dates which should be circled on your calendars!! My goodness: do it now! On July 25th, the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra will be at Old Westbury Gardens and we hope you are planning to bring a picnic to enjoy as you listen to that wonderful music! They play somewhere in the world 300 nights of the year and still remain Number One in popularity. If you know the music, you know why; if not, come and find out! Perhaps you have young people in your family who are not yet familiar with the famous Big Band sound! Bring them that evening and see what happens!
