What is a STEM Certificate?  The STEM Certificate recognizes the academic achievement of students pursuing STEM

courses as their main area of interest. The Certificate consists of required Content Core Courses and three available Areas of Specialization Pathways to choose from. The available Areas of Specialization Pathways are: Engineering Track, Computer Science Track, and Maker, Architecture, & Design Track. The total number of earned high school credits is 12.

 Students who complete all of the requirements and maintain 80 grade average will receive a

Certificate of Acknowledgement . The combination of rigorous Mathematics and Science Core Courses and unique Areas of Specialization, make the STEM Certificate an unmatched opportunity for our Ossining High School students interested in pursuing STEM careers.

Why should I be interested is a STEM Certificate?  “In the 21st century, scientific and

technological innovations have become increasingly important as we face the benefits and challenges of both globalization and a knowledgebased economy. To succeed in this new information-based and highly technological society, students need to develop their capabilities in STEM to levels much beyond what was considered acceptable in the past.” (National Science Foundation)

How do I earn the STEM Certificate?  The Core Requirement consists of seven foundational Math & Science

courses and two additional Math & Science College level courses. In addition to the Core Requirement, students will choose one Area of Specialization among Engineering, Computer Science, and Maker, Architecture, & Design Tracks.  After Junior Year, students who have successfully completed all seven required

science and math courses and have maintained a total cumulative average of 80 or above will have the comment in the note section of their transcript. The certificates will be distributed to the Seniors during a special awards ceremony.

What courses qualify for the STEM Certificate? Core Requirements: Science: Earth Science (1), Living Environment (1), Chemistry(1), Physics (1), and one College Level Science Course (1). Math: Three Core Math Sequence Courses chosen from the following tracks and one college level Math Course:  CC Algebra (1) CC Geometry (1) CC Algebra II/Trig (1)  CC Algebra (1) CC Geometry (1) SUNY Algebra II/Trig (1) *must choose another college level math course to complete the core requirements

 CC Algebra (1) CC Geometry A (1)  Trigonometry (1) *additional tracks might be developed

Students have to complete all courses in the Core Requirements
