Orem High School Principal M essage O

rem High is an incredible school and a great place to be. With “student achievement [being] our... only business,” Orem High has seen continuous improvements in graduation rates, ACT scores, AP pass rates, as well as the opportunity to take Advanced Placement and Concurrent Enrollment courses to enhance learning while earning college credit. Along with academics, our athletic and other extra-curricular activities continue to be great examples of excellence. With our focus on student achievement, our faculty and staff meet often to discuss how they can support and help improve student learning. Every Monday, departments work collaboratively to assess and make adjustments so that we can better serve the students at OHS. Orem High provides many opportunities for students to get involved in their school. OHS offers over 50 clubs, athletic programs, and extracurricular groups where students can take part. The faculty and staff are impressed with the positive impact these opportunities have on our school, community, and especially our student body.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL very public school in Utah has a School Community Council (SCC). These councils are comprised of parents (who are elected by parents of students attending the school), the school principal, and school employees (who are elected by employees). Elections for the SCC at Orem High School are held at the beginning of each school year. There is always a minimum of two more parents on the SCC than school employees. Membership terms are two years.

E

The main purposes of the SCC are to develop, approve, and assist in implementing the School Improvement Plan, and to allocate LAND Trust funds based on this plan. The council reviews and prepares this plan and allocation of funds each year. All plans are reviewed for final approval by our district school board. The SCC also acts as an advisory committee to the administration. The School Community Council meets on the third Thursday of every month. If you are interested in learning more or in joining the SCC, please contact the SCC Chair, Aerwyn Whitlock at [email protected]. Information such as minutes of the meetings, the names and contact information for council members, dates and times of meetings, and previous LAND Trust plans can be found at http://ohs. alpineschools.org/ptsa-and-scc-information. For those who cannot access this information via the internet, SCC information is available in the Main Office upon request..
