Homecoming is an exciting time for our high school. We get to dress up all week, play games, participate in activities, and make memories with our friends. Our opponents for homecoming week we had played were the Springfield Longhorns. The JV girls won, Varsity girls lost, and the football boys won! The dress up days were Sports day, Pajama day, Twin day, and Red and Black day. The high school classes also had one business in town they had to decorate. The sophomores decorated Porky’s and they won first place. The juniors got third and they decorated Reyman’s. The seniors got third and decorated the bank and in last place were the freshmen; they decorated the Credit Union. Monday night was the Lip Sync Battle, Wednesday night was Powderpuff Football and Macho Volleyball, which was filled with a lot of laughter. Thursday was the pep rally! For the pep rally, each class went to their own group and yelled their class chants! Each class has a game they came up with to play at the pep rally for a contest. The freshmen had Hungry Hippos, the sophomores had the plunger race, the juniors had the bottle flip and the seniors had stringy doughnut. The outcome of the pep rally was the seniors got first, juniors got second, sophomores got third, and the freshmen got fourth. After the pep rally, we walked over to the swimming pool parking lot where the burning of the H occurs. The Booster Club made cookies and hot chocolate for everyone. After the H was lit, the cheerleaders did some cheers for the crowd to do with them. Then, after the burning of the H, there was a cemetery walk. The cemetery walk was creepy because of the clown stuff that is going around! On Friday, we had our homecoming game, and at half-time was the crowning of homecoming queen Macy Kennedy and king Leo Martinez. Following the football game there was a homecoming dance for the high school students. As it was Taylor’s last homecoming she says that it was pretty fun although she’s disappointed they lost the volleyball game. Hopefully everyone had an amazing homecoming week!

It is not considered a hurricane anymore but is still causing problems in weather changes in the United States. In the United States the state that had it the worst was North Carolina, with seven deaths. In Florida four have died, and in Georgia and South Carolina there have been three deaths. With the total of 17 deaths in the U.S. Since the east part was impacted there were 1,000 people rescued in North Carolina. By: Adriana Mares High School Knowledge Bowl had a meet on October 14 at Plainview School. Senior Trace Salzbrenner thinks that he did well and said thanks to Brandon Wilson the “A” team placed third overall, while the “B” team placed first in their division. Salzbrenner said he needs to study more and says if he can get more practice with literature and geology, he would do a lot better with questions in those categories. Salzbrenner says he really enjoys knowledge bowl, really likes his teammates, and is always looking forward to every Friday. Junior Brandon Wilson thinks they have been doing a lot better since the

Wilson says he likes being on knowledge bowl because it can be fun and there is a lot of good food. He also likes his teammates but mainly Trace and William. Sophomore Cordell Doss says, “We did great and we kicked everyone’s butt, although they still need to work on communicating because for them it is still a problem. Doss stated that he absolutely loves being on knowledge bowl because it’s a lot of fun and his teammates are awesome.

Freshman Marley Flint says she did pretty good but needs to gain more knowledge so she can answer more questions. Flint says being on knowledge bowl is fun and for the most part likes her teammates. Mrs. Frey says the teams are doing really well and have improved a lot over the last few weeks, but says they just need to learn to work better together.

By: Taylor Neugebauer The Wildcat football team ended homecoming week in a great way. The boys defeated Springfield 27-18. Going into the game, head coach Dayne Eaton said that the boys seemed tired and it was hard to get pumped up. Despite the drowsiness, the boys pulled out a great lead in the first half.

Outside linebacker and Junior, Robert Gutierrez said, “Springfield was a big game that we couldn’t overlook, however we didn’t need to worry about it either.”

Despite their win against Springfield, the boys took a tough loss against the Granada Bobcats. Robert says that they “In the second half, we lost our intensity made bad decisions and that cost them and didn’t play to our level,” commented the game. After defeating Springfield at home, the Longhorns were seeking for revenge. You could say that this game was the most intense yet. One, because it was Homecoming, and two, because both student sections were already having problems. When it was game time, Holly’s student section made an incredible entrance led by Leo and Yaniel. In the first game, it went down to the wire. The Longhorns won 25-22. In game two, the Wildcats killed Springfield 25-9. Then, in game three, Holly pulled off the win, 25-23. Game four and five, the Longhorns played very well and ended the night with a win Page 3

The tournament in McClave was up and down for the Wildcats. Their first game of the day was against Granada, and Holly barely pulled off the win. “We were tired from the night before and didn’t really have the right mindset for volleyball that day,” said Taylor. Holly also played La Veta, who is undefeated. In the first match, La Veta had a big win, but the second match, Holly stayed with them. Against Kim, Holly

“Offense looked good at times, and we had over 100 rushing yards. Defense played well, too,” said Eaton. “Composure was an issue for us and that is the difference between champions and contenders,” Eaton stated. Eaton and the rest of the team are looking forward to playing McClave this week. They are a tough team but the Wildcats are determined to get that win and get their chance for playoffs. Go Wildcats!

By: Diana Olague This year’s Holly High School cheerleading squad consist of two seniors: Ashlyn Crossland and Diana Olague; four sophomores: Andrea Orta, Juana Rodriguez, Mercedes Rodriguez, and Bailey Rushton; and two freshmen: Athena Crum, and Jazmine Pizarro. Despite that, there are only three returning cheerleaders. I believe that each one of the new cheerleaders have been doing a fantastic job learning the cheers and cheering at every school event. Being able to cheer at games can be nerve-racking, but once a couple of cheers are made, the feeling of being nervous goes away. Coming from freshman, Jazmine Pizarro, “Being a cheerleader feels good because I am able to support the teams all the time.” Another freshman, Athena Crum says, “Being a cheerleader is very exciting because I know I get the crowd pumped up when I cheer.”

ities a person can be involved in, because there are many little girls who look up to us and we, the cheerleaders, have to be a good example for them. But it can be hard work, too. Not only do we represent the teams that we cheer for, we also represent our school. Sophomore Mercedes Rodriguez thinks that, “it just means that we have to set a good example everywhere we go.” Senior, Ashlyn Crossland mentioned that representing our school, “means that we are role models for those who are looking up to us,” especially knowing the fact that most of those who look up to us are little girls. “It feels good on the inside knowing that there are little girls who want to be like me when they grow up,” Crossland says. The rest of the cheerleaders think it is adorable that we are being looked up to by little girls.

Juana Rodriguez said, “It was a great experience last year and she wanted to cheer again this year.” So far, it has been fun being a part of the cheerleading squad. We have great girls cheering this year and I hope we all have as much fun as we can this year.

By: Sigi Avalos The United States is planning to take one of the biggest steps it has taken for years. Barack Obama’s curiosity is pushing boundaries in the space program to do the unbelievable. Our space program has done plenty, but they want to go even further and travel to a whole new world. The goal is to send astronauts to Mars and back safely by the year 2030. A lot of cooperation from the government and private innovators will be needed to make all of this possible. For many, this seems Page 5

impossible but with years of testing, tools, and preparing it can be achieved possibly even sooner. I asked a couple of people if they thought this was possible. Mrs. Frey commented, “Yes it can be done because NASA has the expertise already and now they just need the funding to do it.” Taylor said, “Yes because you have to believe in your dreams for them to come true.”

Leo mentioned, “The technology and time is looking a little sketchy that we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves just yet, until we feel like the time is right.” Mars has been interesting to many scientists because last year NASA discovered water flowing, and beyond that, ice on Jupiter. To discover things beyond Earth’s orbit will help us to see if people can survive, adapt to other conditions, and if it can benefit us in the future of science.

As we all know, the presidential election is coming to an end. Cheers! No more annoying, hateful commercials about the candidates. Two weeks from now it won’t matter what crazy things Trump said, or how many messages Clinton has erased. Sadly, though, too many people are frightened by who will actually become president. People are not voting for a preferred person, but against the opponent that they like least. The candidates to choose from were Donald Trump, Hilary Clinton, Gary Johnson, Jill Stein, Darren Castle, and Evan McMullin.

She aims towards friendlier relations with non-threat Muslim countries, pro-choice abortion, and stricter gun control laws. Gary Johnson is the Libertarian candidate; he wants to see a change in health care because he doesn’t believe the government should control it. Jill Stein is the Green party candidate. She believes that jobs, health care, and education are all rights. Darren Castle is the Constitution Party representative. He is pro -life and pro-gun. Last but not least, Evan McMullin is Independent. He is a

combination of different ideas. Since the voting age is 18 and older, I have decided to have a school election and see who would win, if we were a nation. Every high school student who was present on Wednesday, October 11th, was given a ballot to vote. The results were as followed: Donald Trump had the lead with 37%, Hillary Clinton came in second with 25%, write-ins came in third with 13%, both Gary Johnson and Jill Stein had 9%, and Evan McMullin with 6%. Darren Castle had 1%. From these results, we might as well vote for Kanye West on 2020!

Dear Wanda, What do I do if I think my boyfriend is cheating on me? Good question, but here’s what you should do: Confront them. If you’re suspicious in any way, shape, or form then don’t be blunt about it. If you’re putting time, and effort into something then why not be up front about it. If you find yourself asking these questions, and not getting anything back, then there’s only one logical thing to do… steal his dog. (Jk lol we don’t condone stealing) So all in all, just get rid of them and move on. Dear Wanda, How do I make bank? Good question young bean, and here’s how you do it. The main thing is that you have to know what you want to do already. You have to have a plan ready. You have to work for it, you have to stay on the grind. You have to get rid of all of the little distractions and work towards your goals. The main thing is vision. You have to imagine yourself to be successful. You really have to believe that you’re going to do something with your life. You can’t just wait around and try to win the lotto. Dear Wanda, Where are the coolest places to live? Honestly, I feel like the best places to live would be the exotic places. For example, the Middle East would be an amazing place to live, considering the amount of wealthy people that live there. The Caribbean would also be a place of luxurious living. If you don’t feel like living across the world, though, I feel like Colorado would be a great place to live. Beautiful landscapes, beautiful weather and friendly people is what mostly makes up the state. Last, but not least, I cannot forget Canada! There’s nothing THAT special about it, but I could just imagine it would be cool. Page 6

By: Kleat Benson So it’s my favorite time of year again. The time to dress up, eat candy, and binge watch horror movies. That’s right friends, it’s none other than Halloween, but what is it? Why do adults just hand out candy to random kids in costumes? Is it really a holiday or is just a way for candy companies to make more money? So when I was faced with these questions, I decided to do a little research to find out what Halloween really is and this is what I found.

the New Year on November 1, which marked the beginning of a harsh winter which was often associated with plant and animal death. The Celts celebrated Samhain the night before the New Year which was thought when the boundary between the living and the dead were at its thinnest. The spirits of the dead were allowed to return to earth, and caused trouble to the living Celts. They did this by damaging crops, and making it easier for Celtic priests to predict the future. Although Halloween is generally considered to be an American or Canadian holiday, it’s actually celebrated around the world under different names. Mexico has the Day of the Dead, Hong Kong has the Festival of the Hungry Ghosts, and Brazil has the Day of the Dead People. All of these are celebrated in different ways, but they all contain the Halloween spirit. So that’s Halloween! I hoped you learned something about this awesome holiday, and I hope you all have a Happy Halloween.

scale of ten, and had just moved to a new town. One day as he was mowing the lawn, a dog had ran into his yard. A beautiful girl came running down the street asking if the boy had seen her dog. After returning the dog, they sat and talked. The girl was extremely out of his league, but they hit it off immediately. Within a couple of days, they had started dating. A week later a girl who lived across the street had come over and introduced herself. This girl was very pretty as well. They had talked for a while when the girl asked if he wanted to go on a date. The guy kindly refused explaining how he already had a girlfriend. The girl became extremely jealous when she found out he had a girlfriend. His girlfriend had gotten an anonymous email telling her if she ever talked to him again she would die. She

called her boyfriend crying when they decided to take a little break. It had been a few days since they had talked, and he decided to give her a call. She didn’t answer and he immediately feared for her life. A few moments later a knock came from the front door. There stood two cops a holding pictures of the two girls. They explained to the boy

that the 7/10 girl had died and there were human remains found inside her stomach that was an exact match of the 9/10 girl. They asked him if he knew who they were and he said yes. They asked if he knew what happened and he said, “Well it seems to me that 6 was afraid of 7 because 7 ate 9.”

The last one was a little funnier so no one got too scared. So tell these stories to your friends, teachers, siblings, anyone you think will get scared or fooled by these, and have a great Halloween!

By: Cordell Doss SMITE is an action MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) that puts players in command of gods and goddesses from Mayan, Greek, Roman, Norse, Chinese, Japanese, and Hindu mythologies and is available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. There are currently 80 playable gods in the game with three more coming towards the end of the year. Each god or goddess has lore based upon the mythology they are in. There are five classes of gods to play including Warrior, Hunter, Assassin, Mage, and Guardian. Warriors are physical melee gods that have high defense and medium damage. Hunters are physical ranged gods that focus more on auto attacks rather than god abilities have high damage and medium defense. Assassins are physical melee gods that have high damage but low defense and health. Mages are magical ranged gods that focus solely on abilities to damage opponents and have

Page 9

high damage but low defenses. Guardians are magical melee gods that focus on taking the brunt of the attacks so his or her teammates can attack safely. Guardians have very high defense and health with medium damage. There are also customizable options within the game. Skins can be purchased with the in-game currency called favor and gems. When a new skin is applied it changes the appearance and voice of the god in the game. Emotes can also be purchased to make your god wave, clap, or dance. Loading frames can also be bought to change what you and other players see as you prepare to enter the match. As you play more and more with one god, that god will receive worshippers. Worshippers increase god mastery level, which is finished at god mastery level 10, and mastery levels unlock new skins for that god.

There are nine different games modes in SMITE including Conquest, Arena, Assault, Joust, Siege, Clash, Xing Tian’s Mountain, Match of the Day, and Training.
