The Board of Trustees for the Ottawa Catholic School Board has selected Denise Andre as the new Director of Education. Ms. Andre is currently Deputy Director of Education and will assume her new role on July 1, 2015. Denise succeeds retiring Director, Julian Hanlon. “Denise Andre is a faith-filled Catholic educator who leads by example. Denise has a thorough understanding of where our Board has been and a clear vision of where she will lead us,” said Elaine McMahon, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees. “On behalf of my fellow trustees, I’d like to welcome Denise Andre to her new role. We look forward to working with her to ensure quality Catholic education for students and a continued positive working environment for all staff.” Ms. Andre started her career in education with the former Carleton Roman Catholic School Board as a teacher in 1978 at Frank Ryan Catholic Intermediate School, and then taught in the secondary panel at St. Mark High School. After working as both a department head and viceprincipal, she was appointed principal in 1997 and served as principal at St. Matthew and Immaculata High Schools as well as the Staff Development, Evaluation and Research Department. Denise became the Superintendent of Human Resources in 2003, Programs (curriculum) in 2006, and Student Success in 2007. Ms. Andre brought leadership skills to her role as Deputy Director of Education of the Ottawa Catholic School Board from 2010-2015. “I am honoured to be selected by the Board of Trustees as Director of Education. I will ensure that the OCSB continues to be an inclusionary learning environment, which is child-centred and grounded in faith. As a Board, we will continue to leverage technology to allow learning and collaboration to take place in many forms. I look forward to fostering learning, student success and leadership at all levels,” said Ms. Andre. Ms. Andre holds a Masters of Education and a B.Ed from the University of Ottawa. Denise has a BA from Carleton University and spent her early years in Cornwall. Denise has been married to Bob Thomas for 30 years. Bob is the Educational Consultant, Physical & Health Education and a professor at the University of Ottawa. The OCSB serves approximately 39,000 students in 82 schools across the City of Ottawa; quality Catholic education is guided by a staff of more than 2,400 teachers and administrators, and 1,500 support staff.
