Over 1200 elementary students to attend Peace Festival OTTAWA — More than 1,200 elementary students will attend the Ottawa Catholic School Board’s 20th annual Elementary Peace Festival this week. The Peace Festival will be held on: Thursday, May 22 (west schools) Friday, May 23 (east schools) 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. St. Paul High School 2675 Draper Avenue The goal of the conference is to challenge students to recognize the power they have to make their schools into communities where all students feel welcome. It is a way to highlight and celebrate the many practices used to build and maintain safe schools. The Elementary Peace Festival will be attended by Grade 4, 5 and 6 students who are involved in peacemaking or peer mediation at their schools. The event is intended to promote and celebrate the contribution of the students to their school communities. The day is developed and run by the Leadership Program students at St. Joseph High School. Student participants will be celebrated at the festival for their outreach programs and their leadership. The Holy Trinity High School Rhythm and Blues Band will play. This year, the founder of this event, Vince Iozzo, will be honoured. Festival Co-Chairpersons are Luce Paradis, Principal, Assumption Catholic School and Bill Barrett, Principal, St. Pius X High School. The conference is made possible by the ongoing support of MADD Ottawa and Ottawa Public Health. - 30 – Media welcome.
