Remembrance Day continues to be a solemn tradition at each of the 82 schools in the Ottawa Catholic School Board. Featured below is a sampling of activities in our schools where local media and the public are welcome. Follow this link to see a complete list of activities in our schools on Monday November 11.

St. Anthony School – 391 Booth Street, Ottawa – School Principal: Brian Kelly November 11 at 9 a.m. -- The St. Anthony school community presents a service for students to reflect on the past. For a second year, honoured guest is Major Anthony Fulmes, who shares a slideshow with the children of his experience serving overseas in various areas. Songs of peace presented by kindergarten classes.

St. Patrick’s Intermediate School – 1485 Heron Road, Ottawa – School Principal: Sean Kelly November 11 at 8:30 a.m. -- Lieutenant Colonel Paul Dittman relates his experience with students of his service in conflict areas. Also there will be a parade of the cadets and teacher Chris Card shares his experience of losing friends in combat. Father Greg Murray will say a Blessing for Peace.

Dr. F.J. McDonald School – School Principal: Mary Murphy-Semenchuk LOCATION OF EVENT IS: the Britannia Park Cenotaph near Lakeside Gardens. November 11 at 11 a.m. -- Dr. F.J. McDonald School is collaborating with another neighbourhood school to share Remembrance Day together at the Cenotaph in Britannia Park. Students have created a poppy mosaic around the cenotaph with students in nearby public schools and artist Karl Cielski. The neighbourhood has been invited.

St. Rose of Lima School (formerly Bayshore Catholic School) – 50 Bayshore Drive, Nepean/Ottawa – School Principal: Donna Bekkers-Boyd November 11 at 10 a.m. -- A local theatre group will present a 55 minute performance on Remembrance Day, then the children will stand for quiet reflection, sing “O Canada,” and say a prayer.

St. Mark High School – 1040 Dozois Road, Manotick – School Principal: Steve McCabe November 11 at 9 and 10 a.m. – School-wide assemblies facilitated by Gr. 12 History students will include a guest speaker, Mr. Alex Polowin, a veteran who served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the 2nd World War. This assembly will also include a prayer service, a video presentation, and student music. In addition, a group of grade 12 students will be laying a wreath at the cenotaph in Manotick on behalf of the students and staff of St Mark.

St. Paul High School – 2675 Draper Avenue, Ottawa – School Principal: Geoff Edwards November 11 at 8:35 and 9:55 a.m.-- Two student-led ceremonies/assemblies will highlight our students' appreciation and respect for our soldiers and veterans' sacrifices. LieutenantColonel J.P.G. Blais-Parent, Asst Director, Land Command and Information, Chief of the Army Staff, will be the honoured guest speaker. Student cadets will assist with the presentation of the colours (Flags). Student authored poems will be read, both in English and French.

St. Joseph High School – 3333 Greenbank Avenue, Nepean – School Principal: Sue Arbour November 11 at 8:30 and 9:50 a.m. -- Two assemblies. The first assembly will have a guest speaker-Lieutenant-Colonel George M. A. Boyuk and the Gr. 7, 8 and 9 students will attend this assembly. The second assembly will be for the Gr. 10, 11 and 12 students. Both assemblies will include the school band playing "O Canada," a slide presentation of the St. Joseph family and friends veterans, performances by the Gr. 9 and 10 drama classes, a student dance, and a video with student singing and piano playing, a prayer, the Last Post and a Minute of Silence.

Also: The Board’s Children’s Choir will perform at the National Military Cemetery. The Board’s Chamber Choir will perform at the Canadian War Museum.
