EQAO scores at Ottawa Catholic School Board show sustained improvement September 18, 2013

The Ottawa Catholic School Board’s elementary students scored 4 – 7% higher than the provincial results on the annual assessments that test reading, writing and mathematics at the Grades 3 and 6 levels. Board and school improvement plans are continually developed with special attention now being focused on primary reading and junior mathematics. Percentage of students at or above the Provincial Standard (Levels 3 and 4) on the EQAO assessments of reading, writing, and mathematics for each of the grades appears below.

Historical Trend The Board’s results have been consistently higher than the province over the last five years in the grades 3 and 6 reading, writing and mathematics assessments. Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Mark Mullan said, “The Board is very pleased with these results. We continue to make it a priority for students and teachers to have all the resources they need to achieve success.” "A focus on strategies such as differentiated instruction and teacher collaboration ensure that every student in our schools has the tools necessary to succeed. These EQAO results are a clear indication we are being successful,” said Julian Hanlon, Director of Education. Almost 5,000 students in grades 3 and 6 wrote the EQAO tests during the 2012-2013 school year.
