Ottawa Catholic School Board Approves Operating Budget for 2013-2014 The Ottawa Catholic School Board has approved an operating budget for the 2013-2014 school year totalling $441.4 million. The Budget focuses on programs and initiatives that directly benefit students and further enhance student and staff success:  Continued implementation of Full-Day Kindergarten;  Expansion of French immersion programming in small schools;  Continued integration of technology in the school, classroom and workplace;  Spending related to new elementary schools in South Nepean and Cumberland. “Despite declining enrolment and significant cost pressure, the Board is pleased to have approved this budget while maintaining spending programs for 2013-2014. Our primary focus continues to be ensuring that each and every one of our students achieves success,” said Chairperson Mark D. Mullan. The Board has been successful in coping with such pressures due to: a) proactive cost savings initiatives implemented over the last number of years; b) continued cooperation and sharing initiatives with school boards and other government agencies; c) pursuit of external funding and grants; and, d) a creative and innovative approach to the delivery of services. This budget was developed with input from trustees, Catholic School Councils and various other stakeholders and focuses on programs that will continue to nurture student success in all our schools,” said Director of Education, Julian Hanlon.
