News Release Over 300 students to attend Peace Conference 12.13

December 13, 2012

More than 300 high school and intermediate students will attend the Ottawa Catholic School Board’s nineteenth annual Student Peace Conference this week. The Peace Conference will be held on:

Friday, December 14 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. ScotiaBank Place Kanata The goal of this year’s conference is to engage the student voice, how safe do students feel our schools are and what advice would they share in terms of making our schools even safer? Students will have an opportunity to share ideas and hopefully are affirmed in their commitment to making their school a safer and more just place. Participants and those interested can share and/or follow the day’s activities live on social media/Twitter using #ocsbpeaceconference. A display area will be set up by groups promoting activities supporting inclusion and peace and justice making in schools for students to look at in the morning and during lunch. Students will be entertained by the Holy Trinity Rhythm and Blues Band. As part of their commitment to helping others participants will be bringing items to support students living on the street. These items will be given as a donation to our achievement centre at Operation Come Home, which attempts to provide educational opportunities for students living on the street. -30For more information contact Mardi de Kemp, Communications 613 224 4455 ext. 2326.
