Meeting Pre-K Classes Miss. Kufro’s 5th period Parenting class meets Miss. Wagner and Mrs. Peiser’s PRE-K classes on Halloween!!

As the parenting class learned about child development, they visited our PRE-K kids to see at the ages of 3-5 how they were acting and what interested them. When the kids visited, they did activities for Halloween like making dirt cups with pudding and crumbled oreos and also Jack-O-Lantern crafts the kids got to make themselves. All the students had a great time and Miss. Kufro, Miss. Wagner, and Mrs. Peiser hoped to do another activity like this around the end of the year for all the kids to enjoy. 4

Miss Kufro’s “Got Values?” Project Miss Kufro's high school Family and Consumer Science class started a “Got Values?” project this year to promote value awareness. The project includes designing a bulletin board and displaying their chosen values in an effort to get students thinking. This month's bulletin board was designed by Austin Fox, Yasin Zuberi, and Tai Gettig. November's Got Values? bulletin board. Superb job and message boys!

Holiday Review It’s time for the review of the issue. There are a lot of holidays coming up, so I wanted to review a holiday. I don’t know all of the holidays, not fully, so I am going to say my favorite holiday and explain why. My favorite holiday is Christmas; This is no disrespect to people who do not like or do not celebrate it, but I love this holiday. Why? Well, for one thing, I get to be with my family. Secondly, I get a really long break from school. Lastly, not to sound greedy, but the presents are great. Now, I know the other holidays have some great things about them, but like I said, Christmas is my favorite. You can like Easter better, or Thanksgiving better, but this is my opinion. That is all for the review of this issue. I hope you agree with me, but if not, I completely understand. 5

Senior of the Month: Julia Hinkle Julia Hinkle, daughter of John and Mary Hinkle, Weatherly, has been named Senior of the Month for October at Weatherly Area High School. Julia serves as the vice president of the WAHS chapter of the National Honor Society, and the vice president of the Class of 2018. She is a varsity cheerleader and a member of the high school chorus, SGA, and yearbook club.

In the community, Julia is a member of Most Precious Blood youth group, and serves as missions coordinator and lector. She volunteers her time both in and out of school with National Honor Society projects, and is employed by Skipper Dippers. Sponsors for the month of October are Gilliespie, Miscavige, Ferdinand & Baranko, LLC, of Hazleton; and Lesko’s Tree Farm and Used Farm Equipment, Weatherly.

Teacher of the Month: Sarah Peterlin Mrs. Peterlin has been teaching at Weatherly High School for the past sixteen years. She is the current ninth and tenth grade English teacher as well as co-advisor for the SGA. She is always positively promoting all of the happenings at WASD through our district's Twitter account. Last year, she was inducted as an honorary member of the Weatherly Area School Chapter of the National Honor Society. She is a 1998 graduate of Crestwood High School. After high school, Mrs. Peterlin attended Neumann University in Aston Township, PA. She majored in Communication Arts, received a Secondary Ed Certification in English and minored in Spanish. Throughout college, she was part of the volleyball team. She was the Student Public Relations Representative and the Valedictorian of her 2002 graduating class. She then attended Wilkes University, where she received two Master’s Degrees and graduated in the years 2005 & 2008. In her spare time, Mrs. Peterlin and her family are involved in their church, St. Jude’s in Mountaintop and they are passionate about raising awareness about Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) and fundraising for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
