A Nod to IVHS Ladies Soccer Team & Coach Illinois Valley High School’s Athletic Director recently received a letter from Cascade Christian High School’s Ladies Soccer Coach, thanking them for a great game. Three Rivers is extremely proud of IVHS and the ladies' soccer team and felt that this praise deserved to be shared: Hi, I would like to personally thank the Athletic Director, staff, coach Matti and his players, and also the Illinois Valley supporters for a very memorable game last night. Playing under lights is always a fun thing, but I have to admit that this one for some reason was outstanding. I wasn’t expecting a playing surface that was very good, which is usual for most fields where football is played. I admit that the surface was extremely good for the occasion and it didn’t seem to affect the players one iota. The lights were perfect and not glaring as I have witnessed elsewhere so on balance the environment was perfect. I would like to thank Coach Matti for a well planned game and one where his tactics were spot on. We had big problems dealing with those tactics, so I salute Dick Matti and his players for an outstanding competition. The newspaper does not reflect what the game was really like, but I believe that this should go down as one of the games of the season with plenty of action for everyone to enjoy. In closing, it would not be right of me if I did not mention Lily Cusumano who played keeper last night. Where has she been? She was outstanding and apart from the obvious, she saved everything that we threw at her—she is to be highly commended for her performance… Thank you Illinois Valley for what I can only describe as the best example of how a high school soccer game should be played. Best, Mick Cascade Christian High School Ladies Soccer Coach
